I doubt that any of you know who I am. I have not been around for quite some time. I am glock36 and I ran the asylum51 server over 10 years ago. We had the most bizarre mod in the history of the game. Flying bathtubs full of red meat. A flying toilet. A Guiness beer bottle with a weapon that made it look as though the bottle had been shaken and uncapped. and the most inappropriate music in all the systems. And Admin ships that had weapons that could clean out everything as far as you could see.

I dropped by to see if anyone I knew was still around. I found 2 of them. Ghostrdr13 amd Timmy51. There was another, Deacon, who I work for now. So I know where he is.

I never thought I’d live this long. I’m almost 70 years old. How did this happen?

Freelancer was very important to me during a dark time in my life and it’s a bit sad to see that few I know are still around. I got word that one of our guys died of covid some time back.

I hope this game brings all who play it a bit of relief from the reality of life. The world has truly gone insane.

Greetings from the distant past. Glock36 of Asylum51 here. Egads! I’ve grown old! Only “The Wanker Timmy51” remembers me, I am sure. For those of you who don’t know, Asylum 51 was a very off-beat mod of Freelancer back in the day when it was wildly popular with over 13 million members of Lancer’s Reactor alone!
I am including a link to all versions of the mod for anyone who might want it for any reason.

Features:
Pretty explosions that take a long time to finish
Flying Battleships.
Flying Tubs and Toilets.
Flying sharks. (we were there before Sharknado!)
Many new systems with attacking AI Tubs, Toilets, rubber ducks, bender the robots, Guinness beer bottles, etc.
Contest system with configurable enclosed maze.
Beer bottle blowout system with Guinness beer bottles with special weapons that look like spewing beer.
An amazing number of custom ships that other mods may not have. Also rebuilds of some ships with off kilter wireframes.
Full complement of Admin ships, one of which is invisible. These ships will destroy everything in a 10k radius. Great for irritating players.
The usual configurable engines, weapons, etc.
Great but odd music in custom systems in later versions.
Oddly humorous.

Our mod was not one of the most popular in its day but we always had a strong following.

I wanted to make the mod available for posterity. You may use it in any way you choose.

These mods will not run in single player mode, only client server. We used cheat protection that may no longer be available but anyone with the skill can probably make them run in single player.

I go now to fade into the sunset and move in with Timmy. We are going to start a farm in Wales.

Our new Version 5 mod is up and running and we are leasing a high end server that will easily accomodate 128 players. We have 8 prebuilt clan equpment sets and planets that are heavily defended if your rep is not set correctly.

We feature the exclusive X2 ship conversions by AuGuR and a host of custom ships by such shipwrights as Skystalker and Mad Baron Haha. Plenty of Batltleships and other great looking stuff. We now have missiles and mines and torpedoes now (we have not had them in the past mods). We are using the Hi Def Textures and the effects kit from Itano’s Circus so our mod really loods great.

this is not an installable program…it just runs on it’s own as far as I can tell.

I have all versions of .net and the other stuff mentioned in the instructions. I have Windows XP Pro. I just reloaded it.

Still no joy.

Excuse my total ignorance but I downloaded this thing and I cannot get it to work.

I get the error message that I need to reinstall the program, but this exe is not an installer.

I downloaded the c++ redistributable as per the instructions and I have the other microsoft stuff installed but it refuses to run.

from the looks of these posts, I’m the only one who can’t get it to work.

any suggestions?

they were screwing with us…if we use that eft code proj effect, it will tear our hard drives apart. Just watch it happen.

no…see, the problem is that effects insanely large has a runtime of -1 which means effects made with it never stop.

I want to be able to use the effects that are used with it and change that -1 to some positive number so that the effect will stop after a certain number of seconds

I could change effects insanely large itself but then all effects that use it would stop.

I’ve heard that you cannot create new effects types in this file but can only change the settings on the existing types.

evidently the exe ignores new types here. I’m not having any luck.

trying to copy and rename EFT_EQUIP_ATTACHED_INSANELY_LARGE and then set it so that it stops by changing run_time = -1 to some positive number so that it has a limited lifetime.

anyone know anything about creating new types in this file?

You are really screwing up your packet traffic when you use that many guns…if you are playing multi player.

why not use fewer and make them more powerful.
