Ah, I still haven’t completely played through vanilla Freelancer, so I haven’t messed around with many mods, otherwise I (hopefully) would have come across that. Thanks for the quick response and putting it up there, downloaded it, copied it into the right folder, ran like a charm.

I made sure to glance over the downloads page, and tried running a search on the topic, but apparently the search includes absolutely everything with disc in it, e.g discover, discuss, etc. so I didn’t look over every thread closely. Anyway, there’s some background for why I’m posting this, and to elaborate on the question a bit…
Has anyone made an unofficial no disc patch for Freelancer yet? I’ve the disc, and I’ve bought the game, so I know I could probably pirate the game without feeling too bad about it, however I was curious if there was a way to modify the existing installation to run without it. Not to mention, for such a dedicated community, it only makes sense that someone would do so. Preservation of information via conversion of all the data to a purely digital medium and perpetuation through the dedication and devotion of some hardcore fans mirroring it, and all that.
I’m rambling now, but do any of you know of any modifications to the .ini or anything to make it run without the physical medium that ties it down? Much appreciated if you respond, and even more so if your response includes any kind of yes/no/maybe so.

Ah, I had suspected that was the method of doing so, but with a lack of time to properly experiment with it, I couldn’t make out any significant alteration in reputation. I’ll have to give that a more thorough attempt. Thanks!
As to mods, I’m actually familiar with ModDB, and I recall seeing one of the more recent (the one on the front page, if I’m not mistaken) mods on there that helped influence my decision to locate a copy of Freelancer. Thanks for the info on the mods though, I was semi-aware of the large modding community behind this game, but not to the extent they had taken their mods or were capable of taking them.

I’ve not been playing Freelancer very long, as I imagine is indicated by my registration date, and I hadn’t even become aware of it until last year by a friend’s mentioning of it. The allure I found with it from what he described was the freedom, the exploration, and the like. However, and I should note I’ve yet to tamper with the multiplayer aspects of the game due to a desire to finish the single player first, I’ve found myself sort of locked into factions due to reputation.
I seem to recall encountering similar problems in other games, and I have read of methods of maneuvering around this reputation issue, but I’m quite curious as to if there are any more…Legitimate, means to do so. (That is to say, not popping open the game’s files and altering a few lines of code.)
Other basic questions I have would more or less regard the nature of multiplayer, as in, are the servers just modified versions of the single player systems or completely redefined systems put together?
I hope this is the appropriate place to post this, and if I’m repeating previous questions, it wasn’t my intent, as I did glance over the subject lines of all the threads in this section of the forums prior to registering and posting. Many thanks to any who may respond.
Edit: Well, not this section, but the support section. I’m a poor shot at thread placement.
No disc unofficial patch?
