Yeah, it’s not only tightening our relations but in our case I also noticed we’re getting more donations when we’re attacked…

No offense, but I thought you were gone. ???
You posted this earlier… hence the confusion.
So what? He decided to come back and advertise his new mod version… I don’t really see where’s the problem?

discovery hates void, and void hates hamburg city after what ive seen
Hey, what on earth led you to post such thing? It’s absolutely not true, mate.
We will definitely go off topic after this one, so Starport admins feel free to split this if needed as that’s not connected to what OP posted and I am not doing this post to react to any of his posts.
Wolfie, you have to differentiate between 2 things. Single players of one mod/server badmouthing other mods/servers on one hand and administrating/modding team doing that. Single players are not under anyone’s control. We have a right of free speech and thus they can express what they feel and administrators and moderators are obliged to influence them not to cross the lines of civilised discussion. But if players are for any reason badmouthing other servers/mods on one forum, it in no way means that those communities hate each other.
If you try to search “Void” on discovery forums and as well “Discovery” on Void (or Hamburg City) forums, you always get a bunch of threads making fun or badmouthing the others. It’s natural. Those said servers and their admins have absolutely different way to approach their player base and players who choose one of them to play on because they find it closer to what they like obviously ‘don’t really love’ the way other servers are ran. It’s natural and it doesn’t mean those communities (and their leaders) hate each other.
A perfect example would be the difference in RP/PvP approach. On Discovery you really have to make yourself familiar with 23745 rules before you start to play in order to avoid any collision with the admin team and people from PvP servers obviously find that ‘absolutely crazy’ and they make fun of it whenever they can. On the other side you have people who prefer the RP way of playing, and this really isn’t a tiny group. They pay special attention to the fact that their characters have the ship, equipment, reputation and behaviour absolutely in line with their character’s biography and faction alligned to. These know the importance of RP rules, because they know they defend their principles. If such player is attacked with a player flying the Eagle, armed with Nomad guns and other uber stuff 3 times in a row right after they undocked, they naturally are going to badmouth such players on forums and make comments about how these should go back to their Void/HC server. On Discovery PvP oriented players are generally called ‘PvP whores’ and on Void/HC RP players are called ‘RP freaks’.
As an Administrator of the Discovery community and the server operator of Discovery Freelancer 24/7 RP server I can clearly state that we don’t hate Void or Hamburg City. Actually on the contrary, we try to encourage PvP oriented players to try other servers and hope that they do the same. And they really do, I know that because I am a frequent visitor of both Void and Hamburg City forums. We also want to cooperate on development of various server and mod related tools.

The messaging plugin does a lot of things, but /afk isn’t there.

OK, these plugins crash the 1.6.0 FLHook version on startup:
- givecash 0.5 (by Cannon)
- bounty 0.2 (by Cannon)
These work fine with 1.5.9. I’ll test this with Cannon directly.
-
Our flserver crashes on startup if I use the 1.6.0 version. After switching back to 1.5.9 it works fine. After it loads and the server name appears there instead of the running “…LOADING…” message, server load remains at 33ms and after 10s both flserver window and flhook windows dissapear.
I double checked the flhook.ini changes. I’ll now try to unload all used plugins.

Just a small update, it’s not Server2003 but Windows XP Professional 32bit with SP3.
We also have a beta-testing server which runs with XP Pro SP2 and it works there.
From this point of view it might be related to the XP3.
EDIT: Not related to SP3, runs fine on another PC with SP3.
-
Thanks for ideas… I’ll talk to Cannon.

Sorry jase, no ideas, it runs on discovery RP server and there are a lot of caps there. No problems.
On another note, possible exploit:
Excuse me pls sir I want to tell you something about your Anticheatsoftware.

We have almost half the playercount of Discovery but use only 10-20% less bandwidth
Yes, that’s right and if I remember correctly, you limit NPC spawning much sooner than us. 30ms load it is? We currently have it set to 60/80 (start/stop spawning). So you probably should have less NPC activity as well.
Regarding that (sorry for OT) I have a question whether it’s possible to temporarily limit NPC spawning for a certain system only? In FLHook I mean. It could help during some events not to have 20 NPCs messing around, causing lag to players from distant locations or with weak connection.

These numbers might be interesting for you. RP server, less PvPs, more chatter…;)

Thanks for kicking my butt, worked…

Hey guys, I installed a fresh new server for beta-testing but I have problems with FLHook which won’t start.
I did these steps:
- installed and activated Discovery Mod (it includes the 1.1 patch)
- I copied flhook files from “bin” to the freelancer/exe (FLHook.ini, FLHook.dll, FLHookWString.dll)
- I copied plugin ini files into “./EXE/flhook_plugins/”
- I copied plugin dll files into “./EXE/flhook_plugins/dlls/”
- I updated the dacomsrv.ini and added 1 line containing “FLHook.dll” at the end of [libraries] section
I double checked everything… Any idea?
-
I can confirm these are working, we tested and installed them on the Discovery server. However issues can arise if some of the characters have been renamed using IFSO. We’re trying to find a way out of it. A way that doesn’t start with “player” and doesn’t end with “wipe”.
BTW you can also load them without having to shut down the flserver. Just copy the inis and dlls into the particular directories (update flhook.ini according to the readme files) and execute “loadplugins” in the flhook window.
What I am not sure is if the rehash command is executed along with the loadplugins command or not so I run that as well to be sure. -
Just found out that /help command was probably lost in the process somewhere or was it replaced with something else?
-
I have no idea why, but Freelancer Server crashes stopped appearing in the event log for some reason. Only perflib error entries are there in the time of each crash. I’m planning to reinstall the server (under 32bit version of Win) soon so I’ll post them later. Right now I can only say each crash is followed by massive (2GB) VM allocation of the flserver.exe process right before it crashes. Looks like some unsolved memory leak to me. But that’s not related to the AC plugin, on the contrary, our server is much more stable with AC plugin installed.
Now I am almost sure that the reduction of units dropped by asteroids is caused by the AC plugin, would it be possible to switch it off in the next versions? We have some mining player factions and they are crying…
The RefireRateTolerance in percents would be also nice, we have some chain guns with high refire rate and it could cause problems there. Setting RefireRateTolerance to 2 could help there a bit, but then the guns with refire rate 2 would be allowed up to 4, which is quite a lot as well…
-
Yep, but I couldn’t find a way to start it up (putty + log using pass … + set-up logging into a file) automatically (from a command line), so I was just asking if there any of you know how to do it…
-
Testing the anti-cheat plugin goes very well so far. I installed it back on Tuesday and the server is 2x-3x more stable for the past 3 days now, but maybe it’s just coincidence, I don’t know.
There are some issue reports but we haven’ tested the deeply, and they are quite rare (except the jumping issue) so the problem might be elsewhere:
- jumping between certain systems killed the player and displayed the ‘player was killed by an admin’ or people just appeared on the location where the F1 jumphack would place you with half hull gone (they didn’t attempt to do the F1 jumphack). But with disabled speedmod check it seems ok now. The speeds checks were set to 110% of the original values. I’ll try to get more details (in which systems it happens etc.)
- a player reported they can’t buy a scanner (gets kicked) - but only one player had a problem with that, could be a cheater, I have to investigate more
- some people reported reduced firing range of some capital ship turrets (with range over 1500) - didn’t test myself yet
- some people reported that some mining clouds only drop 1 unit of whatever you can mine there instead of the normal amount. Igiss tried to support mining in Discovery Mod by increasing the amount of units dropped by asteroids. Again I haven’t tried myself yet with and without the plugin activated in a certain area.
- some people reported more lagging at the client’s side
And that’s all so far. As I said most of them have to be tested yet to ensure the problem doesn’t lie elsewhere. So far I would say good job working well. Oh and I have to try the Justice Beam Mod.
