Well, the good news is I unpacked the no-cd version of Lancer and it seems to work ok.

The bad news is I thought I was trying winrar on it, when win ace came up running. I grabbed the .exe since the deed was done.

So I may have gotten the spamware version of winace loaded despite thinking I had aborted the download/install.

now to try out my new Thrustmaster stick !!!

This site has the no-cd in a .ace file which seems to require the ace archive software which loads adware on users computers.

I would prefer to not load up my computer with adware.

I’m looking for the StarLancer no-cd mod. I’ve received and installed SL, seems to run OK for me under Win8.1. But I’d like to do away with the need for the game CD in my drive when starting the game.

I’m looking for a reliable download site/file.

I just received a (new in wrapper) copy of Freelancer via ebay. So am a total new player to this game and all of the Wing Commander series, although I have loaded all the early WC games available on GOG.

Installed the NoCD.exe and can now get into the game, so will be taking my first mission later today.

Have been playing the space MMO Entropy (Steam) for about 4 months and was pointed towards Star Citizen by some of the players in Entropy. So discovered this series of games which I had not played when they were new. I mostly played standalone, and turn-based games prior to 1.5 years ago.

I have recently pledged to SC and am also RandallOne there.

I’ll play Freelancer standalone until I get the mechanics down, and may join one of the servers if SC isn’t ready yet.
