^^yes anyone can create a server. if you have the global workaround [which you have to have to connect these days] it’ll automatically be visible.

From dacomsrv.ini
[DACOM]
IgnoreDACOMEnv = true <- curious about this line
DllPath = .\[Engine] <–-manages animation/hardpoints on server side, right?
Animation
Hardpoint
RenderManagerProbably the [engine] is the game engine, since it handles rendering. I’m curious where Ignoredacomenv comes into play.
Since [Libraries] has to have flhook.dll on it to load it automatically, which in turn allows clients to interact with flhook commands, what about sticking infocards.dll under there? Wouldn’t that ‘enable’ clients to see the server’s view of things? Since flhook doesn’t exist for the client until it’s activated?
edit: infocards.dll loads wtih no problems, but client couldn’t see it. testing setting ignore line to false now.
edit2: Hasn’t changed anything, clients still can’t see any information. Knew it wasn’t that simple, but had to try anyway.

I just looked at mission scripts and vignettes…nodes. As if the code couldn’t get any more vague, child impulse and parent impulse are just arbitrary numbers How’d you even begin discovering which did what, where, and when?
-
All the ports had been opened for the correct IP, no firewall turned on. Problem’s still persisting.
-
For some nutball reason, the patch made it see the list server, but the list server can’t see it, and people can’t connect.
-
So for some nutball reason, patching the GLS workaround fixed it. Computers are all HAL, swear to god.
If anyone else has this problem, try patching GLS workaround before tearing your hair out, it’ll hurt less.

Well, FLserver just doesn’t feel like doing any more work. It’s been trying to connect to list server, and failing, for the better part of 18 hours. I’ve tried shutting off network access for all other computers, different ethernet ports on router for the server, different hard port settings in IONCROSS, NO port settings in IONCROSS, running just the flserver.exe itself, wireless/LAN connection, resetting router, power cycling modem and router, replacing the flserver exe itself, then patching to 1.1 so flhook works, rebooting the computer, nothing at all is working. I can ping the list server fine, and people can direct ip connect to the server, but it will NOT connect to list server. GLS workaround is installed, line is added into freelancer.ini for correct destination. I’m posting from the server now, so the internet works itself. I just keep getting the cycling ‘connecting to list server, connection failed to list server, connecting to list server’ repeating lines. I’ve tried everything but a windows reinstall, and since I had not added or changed ANY software when this happened, I’m not positive that will help either. This is a fresh install of Freelancer, 2 days ago in fact, and it was working then. I’m totally tapped out for ideas except a reinstall of both the OS and the game. If anyone has any further ideas on what could possibly resolve this issue, I’d GREATLY appreciate it.
EDIT: Running on Windows XP service pack 3, everything working fine until today.
EDIT2: All ports are forwarded for the correct IP on the router as well. -
Wow. That is a thoroughly well put together explanation of what’s going on, much better than I had hoped. Thank you sir. But, why would Microsoft decide to control the game in such a wacked out way? I mean, locations and all are already reported to the server, and every client file’s controlled by the server, so why not every file? Your reply includes every bit of what I was asking, it’s just a shame that there’s no way around adding existing ships to bases, ships already in the game, not new ones, without a mod, optional or not.
I can see more headaches and confusion occurring as soon as we dream up some more changes Thanks for all your help, guys. You rock.
-
I’m thinking it’s controlled in a .dll somewhere…which working on a .dll makes me cringe and twitch a little bit. Microsoft, with this game, seems to have made it two ways: hey, here, you can change all this great stuff, but you can’t MOVE anything without a mod, that’s a no-no.
Weirdos.
Thanks for the replies, guys, mbases.ini if it gets changed at all apparently breaks missions on bases AND people in bars.
-
Reinstall and mbases file overwrite didn’t do it either on their own…but a 3rd reinstall and it’s fixed, I really don’t know how or why.
-
So all the major things, jumpholes, NPC information/loadouts, mission difficulties, basically everything that MATTERS is controlled server-side…but a little thing like changing how many ship pads are on a base is controlled solely by the client’s files? Is there any controlling switch somewhere that can change that? Why would anyone in their right mind program a game that way?
-
I was wondering if any of you knew [from head-against-the-wall trial and error] which .ini files are controlled serverside and clientside, without mods, any mods.
I run a vanilla server with some tweaks to NPC regenerative shields, more appropriate weapons, and aiming ability. New characters get more cash. Some jumpholes are open. Some ships have increased hull capacity and cargo hold size. All of this is controlled serverside. The thing I don’t understand is, we’ve opened up Tohoku, and have populated it with KNF and Blood Dragon fighters, they all work just fine. When we added ship pads and types to Ryuku base, that weren’t there before, the changes don’t affect the clients. I’ve run Freelancer on the same CPU as the server, and the changes work. Is there some global file that controls which files are ‘locked’? I ran into this problem before in Chugoku adding ship pads, they worked on the same CPU, but not client’s computers. What gives, Microsoft?
Thanks for any assistance, y’all.

All bases everywhere seem to have everyone but the bartender out cleaning Leeds smog or something. Guess I’ll need to reinstall, again, 3rd time in 3 days i love broken code

Hello, recently i was playing around with tohoku and changed things in mbases.ini, and now the bars are empty. Everywhere. I’ve reloaded mbases.ini to original, and still all the bars are empty everywhere except for the bartender. Missions -do- work, but people don’t hand them out any more. I’m just wondering if I’m missing something here. Vanilla freelancer server, no mods activated. Thanks for any assistance.

woah omicron, i remember that one. all the players got lazy about showing up. miss that 'un and procyon.

The router had switched me to another internal ip, so I manually set it to the previous one…and nothing. No updates on flserver.de, looping connect disconnect, then all of a sudden 5 mins later…the flserver site showed I was up. The looping kept going for a while, then went away. Server’s fine now. This is one of the stranger problems I’ve seen. No explanation for it.
-
even if it did, once it updates the server should work, right?
i know they do change em, but not that often. -
My server has been acting strange the past day or so, continually connecting and losing connection to the GLS server. I was wondering if anyone’d had experience with this problem before.
Thanks for any replies!

Seems like it shoud be a simple network value.
