Hello Fox
I am trying to use this specific piece of editing:– 0x0F85->0x90E9 in freelancer.exe, 0xED5B9, 0xED5B9 = remove HUD elements on objects in space - includes text, brackets, targeting reticles, and missile warnings ~M0tah
But what exactly do I do.
It doesn’t tell me what address I am supposed to use and what values I am supposed to change in order to acheive this effect.
Any help would be appreciated.I feel your confusion…… what you do is this : get a hex editor ( I assume you have one - I use Hex Editor Neo for these types of changes)
before you change anything - copy the exe that you want to change to another location and edit the copy - you can overwrite the original after the changes, but it can be difficult to fix mistakes. this way your changes won’t mess up your original if you do something wrong. Personally I started with a no-cd exe so that i could put my freelancer cd safely away - so it is protected and i dont have to use it to play !! a search for the no-cd exe in the forums should find you a link- I’ve had it for a long time and don’t remember where to find it.
open hex editor - open Freelancer.exe using the open command at the top left of the screen.
you will see a list of offsets on the left beginning with zero and counting up using letters and numbers. scroll down until you see ed5b0 ( ignore zeros in front of the numbers and letters ) - when you are there, place your cursor in the row that has a 09 at the top of the center window. you will see that it says “0f” where you just clicked ( it should now be highlighted , and at the bottom of the screen you will see the right offset number = ed5b9 ) click it again and it will become editable - make sure your cursor is in front of both the 0 and f. type in 90 - you will see the cursor move to the next two digits ( which are 85. - type e9 . click save in the file menu at the top of the window - and it should be done… I always close the editor and reopen it and check to see that it did indeed save the changes ( for some reason it doesn’t always save for me - i simply redo it and it usually takes on the second attempt ).the fields which were “0f 85” should now be “0e 90”- and things should be the way you want.
hope this explains a little… you should have been successful… high-five yourself and check it in game… ;D
edited for a little more clarity…

if you put your cursor on the Freelancer community links bar at the top of the page you will find links to other fans sites as well as a list of running servers…. we’re all running different mods…

Star Trader, I’ll definitely be checking your mod out - don’t have as much time right now for role play, but how could a freelancer person not be interested in that intro?? Way to go m8 ! - for the standards you represent as well as your longevity ….

HI JAMMI… ( did Jammi hear me? )
HI JAMMI
( I stiil don’t know if Jammi heard me )
and I sooo liked the idea …… starlancer… that would be pretty cool -
I was thinking along the lines of a continuing tourny, where each -eventually- would get the chance to perform in their own “perfect” environment. The idea of what’s fair and not fair for individual players could be stated in as many unique ways as there are players. Isn’t this the very idea behind all the mods out there? Everyone has their own idea of what they want out of their freelancer play. I realize as an admin that there are always players who will “take their ball and go home” if things aren’t exactly as they would like them to be. But I would like to play with these folks as well !
However…. I was also working under the idea that the IMPORTANT thing is to get the ball rolling. Putting up a rather simple dogfighting tourney mod to get things going, allowing votes for the next ( slightly more complex competition ) on a forum, and judging player reaction along the way. Mods take work…
Just watching this thread spells out why this idea has never worked. Does everyone need to be satisfied instantly, or is it possible we could all compete in a wide range of player experience?
I have been dragged into mods I was sure I wouldn’t like by friends, only to find the experience - while admittedly not my favorite config - rather enjoyable…
lets get together, get the play going, and work towards our " perfect environment " so we can frag all that oppose us… ;D -
never really considered the idea - but i have seen it proposed…. after a little bit ( very little because i’ve never really stopped to consider it…) of thought, how about a small mod - single ship - waves of attackers - eventual destruction - most kills wins. At least in the beginning stages.
post the mod for practice for a while ( with a nice forum to get to know folks on and post regulation sized mod ads…) before the competition so all get the same amount of time for practice, let the competition go as long as needed for all interested to compete.
obviously this wouldn’t be pvp but it would be a judge of overall piloting skills, and it would avoid the team aspect - which maybe would attract those without enuff players for a team. It would keep players around the server watching (perhaps bringing folks together a little ), avoid server bragging rights ( which would perhaps splinter the community further ) and if there were upcoming contests for traders, clans, pvp, you name it… it could become a regular event where folks get to know others from other servers, and perhaps spread the freelancer fanatics out a little ( i know some will like that idea and some will not ) so folks get the desire to taste other mods. the whole " if i was in my **** ship i woulda won" inevitability could work in freelancers favor.
overall I think the idea could be used to inspire a more community feel to freelancer, and knowing there was another competiton coming could possibly avoid too much flaming ( especially if those who indulged in flaming had to sit out for a competiton or two…)
just my thoughts folks… whatever is decided - count on Lancerquest to advertise in great big letters - The Fish would gladly make and post some ads around the gaming community !! ;D
I’m not sure about the prize idea beyond sig badges for the winners… hate to see it all happen once then disappear cause noones coughing up for prizes…
Bring on the THUNDERDOME … lol -
Thanks all for the warm welcome and i’ll be watching for you Beast - hope you get it figured out !
rsabatino - I’m G8 M8 how 'bout you?

I’m TrentsFish and I’m Moderator for the forums at Lancerquest. I’ve been around the forums and playing FL for years, however I ashamed to say my screenname has almost always been “guest” :-[ I’ve watched the community grow larger and smaller until I decided to take an active interest in gathering new players.
So I’m out of the closet ;D " Hi, I’m TrentsFish and i play freelancer…." -
