Wtf? Vista?

@tai:
Hey Guys,
I just wanted to install Vista again for playing Games, for that reason I created a 20 GB big partition and guess what Vista did?
It told me that the reqirements are 24243 MB!(or something like that)
WTF??
Take Windows 7 for Freelancer, works brilliant!

Oh yes, Vista… The latest incarnation of the Microsoft Trojan to Infest PC’s….
Here is the solution I used for gaming with my brand new PC, bought equipment that was not “Vista” exclusive then used XP Pro with Service Patch 3. At liest after countless patches and security fixes plus all the third party corrections it acts like a Operating System and not a Spoiled Child while I am trying to play a game. Then for other things that don’t “Require” Win-Doz I can multi-boot into a real operating system. Don’t forget Win-Bloz 7 Holds so much hope right now if you wanna buy even more hardware to maybe make it run like XP already did…
-
I wanted to take Vista because I have it here, and because I have no 64bit xp so Vista Ultimate 64bit should run better!
Also there were not that good drivers for my mainboard, for xp of course, vista is supported!
Yeah Vista itself uses 10GB I know, so why shouldn’t be able to install on a 20GB partition? Because Microsoft doesn’t likes it when any other OS is installed -.-
I would realy love to stick with my loved Ubuntu, which only takes up 20GB for all my installed programms and the system
For 10GB more you even get a fully working XP inside, but thats another thing, it doesn’t support DirectX(or only slowly) so no FL there. -
I feel your pain… I see people still trying to get Freelancer running under WINE everyday and wish them the very best of luck, but know that something so graphical that was so intimate with Microsoft to begin with will require:
-
Free access to original source code
-
A qualified, programmer experienced in porting from C++ with MFC, .NET, DirectX to for example ANSI C++ with OpenGL
-
Time and a lot of debugging cycles
-
Toleration on the users part to await patches whenever a change in the Distro’s break the game code
So, I have opted to stick with 32 bit XP Pro for gaming, seen nothing that forced me to have 64bit as yet for that task. ::)
For you, would do as I have with several others suffering the Vista-XP Blues, check all manufactures sites for updated Drivers / Bios / Firmwear. Most realized after the fact they really dropped the ball not supporting XP with Vista tanking so bad out of the start gate back at release time, and Fixed that oversight very quickly.

So far I’ve seen good performance with Win 7. No, it’s not as light as XP, but it’s a lot less bloated than Vista.
There’s no way we’ll all be able to stay on XP forever, but at least now 7 is a potential choice for a switch while Vista was just crap.
I’d also move to 7 for the 64 bit support so I can get 4gb+ of RAM. XP 64 bits is just bad.
-
Never said I would stick with XP forever. But no matter what op-sys it is I have been burned too many times via “Microsoft and the Zero Version Curse” to climb on board too fast.
BTW, Bill Gates Himself… Wanna see if this makes you think he still wishes we were running XP… Watch the Video in this link and see if you doubt me.
–>What?!? Did Bill Gates Just say Vista was a piece of …?<–

Btw Jim Allchin who 17 years managed development of windows leaved Microsoft after Vista release
And this fact must give the light future for Microsoft x) -
The word i get from Microsoft says that more xp related applications will run on windows 7 because it actully uses and emulator to run that software and i’m in beta testing the new RC so i guess i will find out,as i have Vista Ultimate but it’s a very bloated Os sys.the RC’s supose to fix that but even takes more space to load it. Weird huh
-
Your kidding me right? Windows 7 is running a Emulation Layer Application to execute programs written for Windows XP?
Sounds Like Microsoft, Trying to cripple that “Old” software everyone already paid for so they have motivation to go buy the latest and greatest. But, Oops, they forgot that running a Emulation Layer Application was what so many people where sticking with Windows just to avoid…
Wonder how long the “I’m With Stupid” T-shirts will be popular on the Microsoft Corporate Campus after that truth sinks in…

What they have actually is simply a virtual machine running XP SP3 for Ultimate editions. Since it’s a VM, though, there’s no DirectX support whatsoever.

Either use linux with emulator or tweak XP, works great, which i did (i hate the normal windows behaviour, and its STILL not perfect)
