I formally convey my presence. (Sorry, Demo-Man references done)
Aside from Civ4, no other game seems to have me coming back like Freelancer. Every couple of years I pull it out of my dusty PC game box at the bottom of my closet and sift for my Freelancer disk and each time I’m stoked to just to find it. Last time around I fiddled with FLMM a little so I could PVE in an X-wing. This time around I went on, what I believed to be, a fools errand: to find a FL community that is still playing. When I finished installing everything last night I was shocked to see over 200 people currently playing the Discovery mod. A discovery indeed.
I’m a very casual gamer, but I do spend quite a bit of time gaming. I guess my philosophy is that RL is serious enough, no need to get too serious in a game. My only other MMO experience was a few years spent playing WoW with RL friends, so perhaps my view of PvP is a little skewed, but I was honestly relieved when I saw the four hour kill rule last night (ie. no corpse camping). I played a 2 week trial of Eve on my own last year in search of either the community I enjoyed playing WoW or the playing experience of FL. I found neither. I’m looking forward to getting a little deeper into this rabbit hole.
I’ve always be captivated by mod building but have never taken the time to learn about it. If I can help at all with anyone’s projects, I’d be happy to assist in what little capacity I can. I work in advertising so I don’t know anything about coding but I’d be happy to help with storyline and copy writing.
If anyone has any advice for rep, cash grinding or factions I should steer clear of I’d love to hear it. I started doing Liberty Police missions last night just to make some money. I’m not sure if I want to go rouge or what here, but I’d prefer not to chase down dead ends
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing you innnnn spaaaaaace!

Welcome to the 'port!
If you didn’t find it, Discovery has a community at http://discoverygc.com/ , where you could get more specialised help in regards to play Discovery, online or otherwise.
You’re definitely in the right place if you want to learn how to mod the engine, it’s really very simple once you get to know the files. Though, it’s one of those ‘Easy to learn, difficult to master’ things, not that it stops groups like the Freeworlds team (Check the news, if you’re not aware what they’re doing, it’s crazy stuff!).
In any case, enjoy your stay, Freelancer is definitely one of those games that keeps people coming back for more, despite it’s age!
