Mobile Suit Gundam: Soldiers of Sorrow
-
I love Gundam. The idea is awesome, but I am not sure if suitable for Freelancer. There are only a few fighters in Gundam, everything is about the MSs, so essentially this mod is a capital ship-size oriented one. The number of Mobile Suits is huge, with different variants and custom ones. From where do you want to have the 3D models? The Gundam Homeworld 2 mod have nice number of them tho.

Sounds neat, but you’ve missed the biggest element: what do you actually want with this? Do you want to assemble a mod team, or just throw the idea out hoping someone would grab it?
Also, friendly tip: attempt not to be aggressive with replies, even if they may sound ignorant or inflammatory or whatever else to you. It won’t help you.

Actually, the scale is dead on. In fact, the Gundam above is on the high-end in terms of how big they are; the more advanced they get, the ‘smaller’ they become. They’re also specialized at close-quarters fighting, as opposed to high speeds like fighters, giving both entirely different roles on a battlefield. They would, in fact, be distinguishable within the Freelancer engine.
That’s not to say that I would be following Freelancer’s scaling system. As I said in the main post, planets and moons will be oversized objects if possible, not standard Freelancer fare. Hence, the system map would look something like this:
The scale obviously isn’t “realistic” since it would take months to get from A to B. However, since the Gundam series does involve activity as far out as Jupiter, that distance is rendered. This involves dead, open space. At the speeds I’m anticipating, since there clearly are no trade lane rings, it would take, at the very very most, Three Hours, real time, to get from Earth to Jupiter. That’s a spit in the bucket for Discovery traders, except that there aren’t any friendly ports of call for hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and if you’re an invasion fleet, well, good luck; with an ammunition system in place, you’d better move in force, and gain a foothold. In short: the distances are just prohibitive enough to encourage the Martian and Jovian players and groups to bend their strategy around those distances. That’s Logistics.
I’m more than willing to elaborate on specifics. I have just about the entire thing mapped out down to the gun description. Having the music and sounds is just a bonus. The problem is that I can’t work with Freelancer code for the life of me, to say nothing of modeling. I doubt there would be a large enough, and adequately skilled team to pull this off, since I’m under the impression that those people already did their bit for king and country years ago and moved on. All I’m doing here is getting it off my chest, since this is one of the few places I never posted about it. After having the Gundam community itself more or less blow me off in favor of games already on the market, I didn’t exactly have a lot of hope for this, even if I could sit there and play it in my head for hours on end.

I’d be all for this and willing to help but I’m not a fan of the 0087 time period.
Set this thing in 0096 (Gundam Unicorn) and you’ve got me

Gimme a FXA-08GB(Bst)Ex Core Booster Extended "0088 a Dendrobium Orchis and a MSA-0011(Bst) S Gundam Booster Unit Type Plan 303E “Deep Striker” and I will be a happy player
Btw I just watched Encounters in Space yesterday and the Solar Ray superweapon only have 6 km wide beam :lol:

Why would I lop off the bulk of the best parts of Gundam just to suit you and start it off that late? And what of 6km?
You really don’t have good people skills, do you?

Yeah, um, see, that’s why I said to be careful with how you react. Guess you didn’t actually read what I said.
So much for attacking others saying they didn’t read your posts.
I’ll ask everyone to please give you a chance, but you’ll have to change your attitude if you want anything good to come out of this… Which would be a good thing, because apart from that your project sounds interesting.

I’m personally a fan of the Double Zeta and Gundam Unicorn time periods of the UC timeline because of the mobile suit designs. You finally get transformable grunt suits and some really cool ship designs like the refit Nahel Argama, Rewloola, and Musaka classes.
I already have several ship designs from the period modeled and textured:
Nahel Argama
Nahel Argama Kai
Salamis (modified custom design)
Clop (standard)
Clop (Reinforce-type)
Clop (White Ark-type)Plus I think being able to fly the MSN-008 ZII or the RGZ-95 ReZel would be awesome since they could be set up to transform when using their cruise engines
