I would like to learn Modding
-
Hi everybody,
i’ll want to ask here for first steps “When i want learn to Modding”
I’m sure, that here are skilled modders and i want ask them, with which steps i must have begin, when i want learn FL modding.
For this moment, i’m on “Start of way”… I’m little oriented over FL files (.ini and other)…
i was read “drizzt4.0_ship_creating_tutorialv1.5”, but this is only about 3D modeling -> i can’t 3D graphis, this probably will next harder step in my way. In this manual he wrote, that most better for FL modeling is Gmax - really?
I was looking for something next and i don’t found anything. And MS3D i understand as the “converter”…
Maybe for begin will help me, how i can export textures (Ship, Nebula) to any image format, change it and later export there to FL…
Thank you for your help, or any link do begin-steps

Before anything… you need to ask yourself a very important question.
“what do i want to do”
It’s all to easy to get lost in Freelancer modding as just about everything can be altered… if you don’t ground your imagination 1st it may just overwhelm you a month down the road.
Start small… real small… make simple changes to things you can see, hear, learn what one code block does and why… many things in Freelancer make use of “spread out” blocks of code, sometimes reusing a block for another section multiple times.
Each .ini is a world unto itself, but can (and often is) referenced by other .ini’s it’s all about learning what alters what at first.
Lucky for you, there’s a tutorial of just about everything, and if your stuck or no tutorial exists for your vision… ask about, many here are seasoned veterans, and many will help you along your way of understanding… just don’t ask folks to “do things for you”… it’s a classic frustration mistake, and never goes down well (time… has proven that one).
When your suitably advanced, and have reached the limit, or found one that’s blocking your idea… there’s some “advanced” addons/plugins floating around that smash the rules we had to live by for many years… but wait a bit before you dive into the church of Adoxa’s splendorous plugins, or you wont fully understand “why” they exist, or how to make full use of them in your vision.
Good luck.
