Will Freelancer Run on 8.1 and 10?

I have it running fine on XP but would like to use the better screens and tech of 10 if possible. I am not at all interested in the debats over 10 and access. please do NOt post about that here.
what i need is help getitng the game to run on 10 period.
it loaded ok
but it wont start at all.
do I need to activate NET 3.5 in legacy settings? any other steps woudl help.
I have a fully original disk and a full boxed set.
Also interested in any good mods that fix faults and errors, and improve texture without chagning anything original at all. NADA…
just want to see the game as it was designed as well and as operational as possible

You just need to enable DirectPlay and get the no-cd patch (which should still be in the downloads here). If that doesn’t work, maybe something like JFLP will help, but I’d get those first two done first.

All I’ve done is install the game via the CD, Downloaded the small .exe which is only 2.1mb big. Set the Compatibility to Run as Admin.
