Major changes/additions in WTS version 4.17:
The rest is needless informartions and can be put into a database on your page.
Than put these into links like the example below.Links 1 generall changes
Link 2 list of what is new
What i mean is that generall users quit reading after the’ve scrolled down 2 times.
So all that stuff is a wast of space and a link to a change list and u have the user on your page which is the first step to get him onto your server.Just my two cents, I’m tired of news which are 3 pages long if u print them.
Look at the Solorus Systems news, they’re contain anythin i need as user.Regards Mind

Yeah I know, I need to get around redesigning the front page… Just takes time and effort ;D
We already had something planned to mitigate such problems and you should see good things coming out of this sometime soon.
-
Cool looking forward to it.
But i also mean to tell modders and serverowners to cut their news so they’re tighte.
No offense at all but the WTS news contain so many needless info’s i would never have posted them, or only the first part of.
No Offense to FIR or anyone, but the station list could be replaced by -Added XX new stationmodel (click HERE for a detailed list).Would make it easier to overview it and i guess also more interessting for players, but i could also be wrong on this.
Just thinking about blogs, nobody reads oversized blogs within uninteressting infos.
And specialy players want to hear more about the gameplay, what’s your intention on the WTS mod?
What is unique in your mod and what does your players like the most?
Not boring statistics and oversized lists. The have been psychological studies which prove that the main interest goes down real quick after 20-30 seconds.
So people should try to push the interest with news.Regards

We had a more automated plan which basically cut the news after X number of words. This way, people would have to count their words to go under that bar. Anything going over would be put under the “Read more” link, which would let announcers give as much information as they want to. It’d remove the clutter and would make things much more straightforward.
On top of that, we might limit picture sizes to a fixed height and width.

Sounds like a very good plan

Opinions very widely… FrendlyFire’s plan of what I have seen many places that do something like…
The Madhouse Mod
New and fantastic MOD released with countless empty systems that will make you confused and completely annoyed…
Revamp of all the logical and understandable methods of play with total chaos…
Complete rewrite of all AI logic to allow limitless amusement as you watch them crash wildly into planets…
Change to flight model to make all spacecraft totally uncontrollable…
–-------------(Click Here for complete Story)–-------------Of course the area allotted would be larger than my silly example above to allow for a small graphic, but you get the idea.
This solves the need for description completeness and giving credits up front to the many contributors in a large MOD without crowding a news page for people that may not be interested in more than the headline. -
But a front page isn’t the place for credits. The readme is there exactly for that purpose. The front page should be uncluttered, clean and simple. On top of that, those same people who only read the headlines A) won’t read through the whole text anyways, they’ll skip after the first few lines and B) won’t see the other mods below as they stopped reading that long credit list and changed page.
That means only the first few lines of the latest news item will be read by many… I don’t believe this is the best method.
Plus, if you don’t give a good description, you’ll just look like a generic announcement and will be ignored.

FrendlyFire, I was only giving you the nod for thinking like many other news sites. The method they use (And I apparently mistook you to be referring too) allows XX amount of lines for the headline section that is always seen. Most wanting to post news understand this and write the top part to benefit it, the ones that can’t comprehend this, their submission is automatically clipped anyway. Solves your having to repeatedly argue with submitters about the layout of news posts…
Of course one of your other options is to publicly review each submission and look very similar to Mindhunter nit picking over details. ::)
-
One person make the fronline post, with the most important stuff.
And put a link to the whole details for that mod in a topic, or a link the the servers own forum.
If people are curious they can read it.If not, than they don’t click on the link.
SimpleBut is it now a coincident that this discussion starts by Mindhunter, because of the WTS?
I see more mods who has that long storyline on the frontline, and i didn’t hear him/nobody.
Just cursious -

Just cursiousThat was no offense WW, I know there are other long news but the WTS news are the latest ones so why should i post in a need threat from 2 or 3 months ago?
I just tryed to show people what can be improved, but you’re right your news are fantastic ;D -
The Solurus Systems announcement, Crossfire, TFL, Universal Zone and many others suffer from the same kind of issue. WTS just happened to be the “trigger”. Don’t worry Wicked_Witch, that wasn’t aimed at you.

We probably have more modders here.
than players reading the Starport news.
Credits might be of some interest 4 those.
And atleast we will be able 2 fix those a bit,
with the infos provided under this topic.Regardless:
It might make sens, 2 cut the WTS news
on the frontpage above
"Major changes/additions in WTS version 4.17: "
Due 2 “irritations” in the past between NU + WTS,
a wise man might have picked another example. -
