Interesting Ship Bug

Hey yo, I posted this on Freeworlds then determined that Starport was probably a better place for it.

I’m working on the FireFly mod still, right, and I just got this decent ASREV model I want to put in. So I code it all up correctly and set the LOD ranges for 0, 2000, 2000, 2000 so it actually shows, but when I jump into the game, there’s no ship model.

I know it’s not a case of incorrect ship linking because the hardpoints are appearing correctly. Just not the model. Here’s some comparison shots. Please note that these shots are from the same angle.

I’m fairly sure that the textures aren’t inside-out either, since they show up fine in HardCMP. Also, GodZero (the modeller) managed to get it working in-game, but the screenshot for that disappeared back in 2007.

Any help on this would be ultra-ly appreciated.

I didn’t set the linking up correctly in shiparch.ini for the .mat file. Can’t believe I didn’t pick up on it.

Here’s how it looks now, and yeah, I think I need a better model.

Nawww good base to start with, but looks like the smoothing groups need to be re-done. Refine the textures a lil bit (some well placed random details add a heap to realism) and she’ll be quite purty IMO.
If the cockpit’s going to be transparent, you may wish to toss in a mesh for that as well (hard to tell with the small shot).

I’d personally raise the LOD detail level to 9999. You only need it once for custom ships so

LODranges = 0, 9999

would be more accurate. Why am i saying this? Beacause setting to 2000 means anyone more than 2k from your ship won’t be able to see you. You will show up on radar but not be visible. With the setting i suggest, your ship will be visible from 10k

I’ve actually bumped the LOD up to 30K. I just wanted to get an actual testing value so it’d work. The LOD for the massive Alliance cruiser is at 100K.

And yeah, I didn’t build the model. I suck at modelling. I didn’t want the cockpit to be transparent because I’m going to be shrinking this model.
