I have the following setup,
2 afterburners, 1 counter measure in new location, 1 mine in new location, 1 sheild, 2 exahust nozzles, 4 or 6 wing located mounts, and my nose mounted gattling cannon. It is a slower ship, and has a hit hit point value. Right now it has been coded to work with FoxBox’es 88flak mod, But I can convert it to a vaillnia compatable one withint aday if you would like it. -
Fell upon your post and almost litterally fell over, Sol! You have an amazing imagination and incredible skill at bringing it into “life”! I am awed, my friend.
Xarian, UV mapping is definitely the way to go when you want fine detail on superbly designed ships such as Sol’s.
MS3D’s Texture Co-ordinate Editor is so limited that it can easily ruin the work you put into your ship model, or at least cause you hours of hair-pulling that you should use learning UV Mapping instead.
There’s no end of better and better texture mapping guides on the net, look them up - here’s a good starting place for UVMapper….

The Classic version is free, and when you find its limits you will probably be very willing to buy the Pro version with so many cutting and seaming tools (once you know what that means - I don’t at the moment!!)

Thanks StarTrader. Actually when it comes to both modeling and texturing I’m literally a noob. I’ve got great ideas but it’s hard to make them a reality but I’m trying to get better. Would be cool if there were more like me trying to help the community.

Currently I’m working on a new sleeper ship model but I’m having some setbacks, 3d max keeps crashing when i try the boolean command on this model and I haven’t figured out why yet.
Btw I couldn’t use your sleeper model cause it was too buggy m8 but maybe you’ll like mine, if i ever finish it -
Not sure if it helps u a bit but there is not only a broken sleepership in FL.
There is also a sleepership in the manhatten cityskype, at last the fron and main body is there.
Take a look at it, there are some details u can not see on the hispania. -

Make a completely new sleeper ship, Sol :- slicker, more cool, more sleek, more bigger, more sleepership!
Design it with banks of cells for animal pairs to save and thousands of cells for “prime” human specimens in mind - you know, middle-men and middle-women:-
politicians,
insurance brokers,
bankers,
council workers,
managers…!!Make sure the lifeboats are enough for the crew and any kids.
And in the basement put lots of dungeons for murderers, poofs, paedophiles, transvestites, wife-beaters and other loonies next to the tigers and lions and sharks and crocodiles etc., so their meat is always fresh…!!! 8-)
And ensure the engines just about get it a couple of days into its voyage before they fizzle out…

Hehe I’ll keep that in mind. On a side note, my sleeper model is way to buggy and it’s just impossible to continue with the modeling from this point on, as such I’m deleting the file and gonna start a new sleeper ship tomorrow, hopefully I’ll not make the same mistakes again … i still don’t know what those mistakes were but hey …

& sweet… been waiting on a “useable” sleepership for some time now… dam i can see me spending all Xmas & NY learning the “way of the texture” hehe… I can think of worse ways to spend the holiday…

Xmas is due to come in one month, my ship should hit the shelves tomorrow or such, untextured of course.
Meanwhile I finally figured out why the model had errors …. and as always -> human error … I hurried to make the sleeper ship and I didn’t noticed a couple of obvious hull surface mistakes which were done in the first stages of the modeling. By this time it would take me longer to remedy the situation than to model a new ship, as such, learning from those mistakes, the new ship is clean* and about 70% done. It ain’t detailed since I couldn’t see much from the Freelancer Intro … too blurry … damn video resolution, yet again, it isn’t supposed to be a true replica of the original.

The sleeper ship is an icon of Freelancer so I reckon my model has room for improvement …… as such, feel free to come with suggestions on things you’d like modified and I’ll look into it.
I named this ship “Oltenia” and I would appreciate it a lot if you’d keep the name at least somewhere in the ship’s infocard in the game … if you’ll use it of course .Well here it is:

Next… hmm… how old ye Sol… do you remember the “original” V series… and those awesome transports they used?? we “need” a WORKING gunstar from last starfighter (the avalible one has major issues… belive me its been months and its still not converting properly)… anything from “Battle beyond the stars”… (awesome sci-fi film… i suggest anyone not seen… GO WATCH IT!!)
oh… hehe… and a LEXX… low poly of course… that’s the prob with the existing model it crashes in almost every modeler proggy as its just SO huge…
But V Transports… yeah… i dare say that will only take ye about a few hours at max… they pretty basic… just none exist… & I NEED EM… bahahahahah!!.. a V mothership would be cool too… for a base…
now if i could just get someone to make those uniforms for NPC’s… hmm… rabbits… tasy…

well… whilst searching for relevant pics… I managed to pick me up a 3ds of a smaller shuttle… nice… but for what i have planned in this area… just the begining…
Here are some pics i found around the net… some are kitbashes from fans… but i love the junkyard pic… I could go crazy in there…
& for fun… here’s “that” uniform… and what they “really” look like…
Still no “good” pics of a mothership… but it was basicly just a giant UFO… standard circle type. I will be spending Xmas -> NY watching it all again… as that’s when i get my box set from santa… lol

Just played a bit with the shuttle… methinks i’ll try UV mapping this one… as it “has” to be 100% perfect… close just wont cut it… ( i textured it… but no… defiantly try UV mapping here…) when she’s done… I’ll hunt down its owner (there was no info…) & see about releasing it for all
@ Sol… I imported the sleeper into ms3d… and it went all funky… seems it lost some weld or verticie data along the way… bad triangles everywhere… any ideas on how i would fix that … I have Blender/XSI & Wings3d here… maybe in blender?.. oh and no 6 pack… here’s the darn brewery… hehe

I am sorry for the inconvenience guys. I gotta get some sleep now cause I’m going back to work in 5 hours but I did 2 test versions of the ship in .obj format. Indeed when I tried to save the original model in .obj format it gave an error, after a little bit of modifying the model I received no more errors when converting to obj. Test these version and let me know if they work. If not, I will look into it more when I get back from work ok ?
