(While i doubt, that will help.
AND - if you make it a commercial price, you might be able

Oh and btw - does Starport tolerate commercial adds?
Maybe Starport should request a minimum donation of € 36 for each.

I dont call it anything for any reason its not my program, a question was asked and i answered it. I posted regarding FLAC to let people know that something else offered this feature.

Besides nothing in life is free and even if Eagle didnt ask for a donation for the program id still have sent him one for all the hard work he puts into keeping the program up to date.

Well, you are right, everyone has the choice which software he wants to use and which level of anti cheat he wants to have. We decided to get FLAC because the FlHook version didn’t offer any anti cheat at the time we used it.

We decided to spend 35 Euros on something we think is worth the cash to keep the server cheat free. We think we owe it to our users and I see it the way that I don’t pay for the software but for the time someone spent to create it. We also spend a lot of bucks on a rented server, shouldn’t we do that either?

It is also funny that we cry havoc when we have to spend 35 Euros ONCE on a software with constant development and close support and on the other hand spending 100 bucks on caramel-apples and rollercoaster is the most normal thing in the world.

As already said, we shouldn’t discuss someone’s decisions and the point if it is worth it or not to spend cash on certain things as we’ll end up discussing the meaning of life. I see advantages in both ways and appreciate the work guys put into programming such tools. With those tools we can run our servers and everyone programming them deserves our appreciation disregarding if we like his approach to this matter.

Finally the Starport is a plattform about Freelancer information and I think the poeple who migrated to here from pages we clearly pointed out what was wrong about them, are able to discuss every tool available to run a server. I bet this was the point Dragnite had in mind when he mentioned FLAC, it’s about information here and people can decide what they do, finally it’s a personal choice.

ive no prob with paying for software
what i dont like is that its not possible to use both flac + flhook anymore (many features on my server require custom flhook code and i dont like to loose that stuff)

i also heard that the update process of FLAC is not really good and that you have 0 control over it

True but this doesnt bother me if ever there is a problem i and the rest of the server ops work with eagle by sending error logs and in the most case the problem is usually fixed within a few hours to 24 hours.

I agree though it would be nice to use both together as each program offers some things the other doesnt.

I agree with the choice being up to the end-user. I personally would probably never purchase FLAC, because 1) 88 Flak is built along M0tah’s new FLHook versions, and 2) I’m simply flat broke. I don’t know what 35 Euros translates to in Dollars, but for me shelling out $10 for some groceries is something I cringe about every few days. =P

Also, in regard to the comment of the kick-before-beaming on M0tah’s Hook versions, I think you’ll be fond of .kbeam - a new addition, and it’s like .beam on crack. It kills player > modifies last_base > respawns > adds cargo back. A bit faster than kicking yourself from the server, and fully stable - I fell in love with it from day one and I dunno what I’d do without it. lol

But anyways, back on topic, I think a /restart command would make a worthy plugin for FLHook’s new plugin version. I myself don’t really have much use for it in 88 Flak as much of the mod is based around forging yourself from nothing, however I know that this was a favorite of many servers, especially RP ones. I suppose the uses for large clan implementation are obvious as well.
Heh, come to think actually, I think it’d be a neat gimmick if you could pay hundreds of millions of credits to save your current char as a restart template - that way real high-end clans could by themselves create a new template for new recruits.

Well, FLAC is good if you want loads of goodies/tools and a nice protection system. Especialy for people who have little or no knowledge about c++ or c# its good to use it. And, even when its ONLY 35 euro’s, the support is good and Eagle realy tries to think with you.
Yes, its 35 euros, but i haven’t seen one single tool doing the things FLAC does, atleast not on the freemarket.

You are right with this.
But a donation is imho a free choise from fee, and not a minimum amount of cash.

A donation is fine if people choose for it.
I don’t want to have it to keep my server up. It’s my own choise. Everybody has fun, that’s my “donation”

If somebody makes a program, and tell it’s a minimum donation of 35 euro, than it’s just selling a program.

I payed a donation and got all parts of the program unlocked for the NiMa server (which is now officially down).

Like it or not, FLAC is commercial software and that is the point why I dont like this approach.
Guess how much time others have spent on their mods, tools etc.?
What if HardCMP would cost you 50€?

That is the point. Its not about “not everything in the world is free” talk, its about the community. And since FLAC is ATM one of the best anticheat solutions, the business plan works out quite well.
