Where to buy Freelancer CD?

I dont think we should promote rather the game than mods. IMO mods are the most healthy sign a game can offer. If people always see new mods for FL at moddb, they are rather to give the game a go than if there are annoying “OMG this is the best game you gotta play it” phrases.

One other point about moddb, it’s not the ultimate site for mods for FL as some people seem to think. Don’t get me wrong, i have three different mods on there myself and have had many downloads of my mods from there.
There are other sites where there are plenty of FL fans who download mods in more numbers than at moddb, Strategy Informer is one of these, i’ve had over double the downloads from there compared to moddb and i’m sure there are other sites which do the same.
@ NeXoSE
I’m not angry at anything or anyone. Regarding the FL2 thing, i know i wouldn’t have bought it for the Xbox that’s for sure due to the fact it would be impossible to mod. That and the fact i don’t have an Xbox or any other console, think they are spawn of satan and they should all be destroyed immediately

Gibbon, you might be totally right about that site:
http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/freelancer/Just watch for the DL numbers at the bottom right corner - Might be worthy to advise your FL mods there more.

heh, i found strategyinformer even before moddb. likely i will upload mine on both once it reaches the needed state. its btw not going to take time in next year, i think autumn will it be or however 2010. also i will release a rendered trailer on youtube and windows live and give it to someone to upload on xfire, so, gentlemen, count me in in the advertisement scene
nevertheless, were all often annoyed by players who played only the mod without experiences on vanilla and then count the mod to be vanilla without the wish to try out another one to see what the game really has to offer. maybe it should not be advertising the own mod rather than an advertisement for the game and all it has to offer for players with special wishes. -

Hi,
I am searching for my thread for promoting FL…you know, this one with a prototype for a thread. About developed features of FL and improved graphics and so on…Can’t find it, was going to post it at @ strategyinformer & wanted to ask there if they could provide us there with freelancer forums for further advertisements… -
I must agree with you on game consoles. I had one of the first ones ever created. (Don’t remeber the name of it Atari I think) I payed for a while. but when I got my first PC I was hooked. The only reason I buy a PC is to play games. And to keep records when I had a buisness. I’ll keep playing PC games as long as they have them. I don’t even like those silly game pads that come with consoles. A keyboard mouse and joystick are the best way to control you game that I could ever imagine. And with the keyboard you can customise the buttons to suit your hands.

The website GOG.com (Good Old Games - more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gog.com), is one of the most popular websites that sells downloadable, no-DRM copies of old games. They also modify the installers and game configuration to ensure compatibility with modern OSes like Vista and Windows 7. I believe they also provide support for games on modern OSes. Maybe we could petition either GOG.com or Freelancer creator/owners to allow the game to be released on GOG.

And to be honest I’m waiting for the point where the game becomes unavailable in most of the world. Why? Because then we enter a gray area that gives us additional flexibility to promote the game.If you cannot legally purchase a copy of the game… Just look at oldie games and how they’re handled most of the time.
Word. If the game is for sale ANYWHERE, even eBay, it won’t be considered abandonware.

We’re probably at that point now. The original dev team is scattered to the winds. Digital Anvil no longer exists. Microsoft is associated purely in name only. Business is business and defending the copyright for a game that’s not being sold is far too costly an endeavor for no return.
The game is ours. We just need to take the last step.
-
The game is being sold. Doing anything remotely related to condoning piracy would turn the entire gaming press against us, it could cause us issues if retailers complained, and you can be your ass Microsoft would chime in. They have packs of rabid lawyers waiting just for such opportunities.

Good things come to those who wait.

Give it another year…
A certain industry Mogul is pushing for the release of old games into an open source GPL licence… my bet is after Tech4/Doom3 goes OS a few other games will follow suit.
If anyone’s seen the keynote speech for Quakecon this year… and knows a little about Carmack… its the most passionate/stern i’ve ever seen him about anything… he stares direct into the camera as if to make it known he’s sick of the BS and hoarding of old code… He’s also very close with MS.
The stone has been dropped in the pond… industry wise… now we just have to wait and see where the waves spread… not holding my breath… but its kind of like Metallica saying “were giving away our old albums for free now… others should too”
There’s still a mountain of problems outside MS though… I believe Ubisoft is the current distro for FL… once they decide the printing cost’s outweigh the income… then we have a chance.
-
What I find a little surprising about all this is the 5 year support that microsoft give you when they release a game.
That basically is like saying that after 5 years, what’s written on the box and inside the manual is no longer accurate, there is no multiplayer once they take down the global server. It’s misleading for anyone who’s bought the game since 2008.
Rather than hand it off to someone else to distribute that likewise offers no support or online experience, they should just make it available for free the punks.
