Hey, just joined. And I’m not sure where to begin, and end…
Mind if I get an understanding of Freelancer, and how to become part of it? -
Welcome!
Well, it depends. If you’re a player, we have a heap of mods, servers and clans you can try out.
If you’re a modder, we got tutorials, models, apps, and a modding forum.
Rule number 1 is always: Don’t be shy! Whatever you need, I’m sure you’ll find it.

I don’t think I have understand your question yet, but you should do the following things to get started:
- Download FLMM
- Download GLS WOrkaround (www.flserver.de)
- Join a server or read the mod introduction and download the modification (and apply it in FLMM):
http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewforum.php?forum=19
&
http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewforum.php?forum=38
You can very often find screenshots and/or videos along with feature descriptions in this topics.
You might also want to browse the mods @ www.moddb.com/games/freelancer/mods
- Downloads can be found in the Starport Downloads area:

Ah, well. In this case, at the moment, I am a player. Till I’ve had a bit of time, and understanding of Freelancer, I’ll move on to mod if I can.
How’s to start off as a player then?…
-
Mostly that points I mentioned above:

Just try it out. Don’t get your mind to much blown up by too many questions, just try out and decide then what do you like and what not.
Nonetheless, feel free to ask any questions which come up at your mind.

Hmmm, so am I to understand I must purchase a CD? Hope this is last question I have…
-
Hello and welcome to TSP. Yes, the Game CD is the most important part. Once you install it and choose Multi-player, be sure to write down the ID it gives you for future references. After that, you can put the CD up and start doing all the above.
-
also any demo version would contain a no-cd application file and moreover there is a legal no-cd for the game so do not fear of getting in trouble with the law, it’s too late for anyone to run after you and look up the assembly for whether your exe is the legal no-cd or not. btw your account code you can always read out of the html app in your fl\exe directory although it is sensible to write it down e.g. for the case you will play from another computer or redo your system completely or get a new machine with a new system.

Hm, you can get FL cd for less than 10 bucks @ amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Freelancer-Jewel-Case-Pc/dp/B000NJFMR4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273755570&sr=8-1Since you don’t seem to own this CD atm, how did you got to know about freelancer, btw?
-
Ok, thanks!
Heard it from a friend, whom found it…

i am btw introducing FL to gamers personally winning clients for myself as well as sometimes for popular servers. for the time it is created it has quite a good gfx, even today vanilla does not look too badly, updates like bloom or w0dk4’s dx9 conversion not mentioned. the game is worthy of being played and most of the players just never heard of it, that’s it. once they play it, they like it, i never yet was disappointed.
-
Good job, m8. Keep spreading the word and help it grow to be the best game ever, no matter the rest of them.
-
HK: is FL not the best game ever?
well, many gamers, especially ego-shooter players are very concentrated on graphics but fortunately most of the gamers out there play games with a good engine and good ideas, even if those are on two dimensions only. Freelancer is a great game and advertisement is the only thing it needs. advertisement of mods btw is unnecessary and even agains the aim. once people get bored with the game, they search for hacks and for mods themselves. the more players learn to know vanilla, the more mods they play afterwards. also it is difficult to talk about mods if you do not know what they changed actually. it is important to keep the original name of Freelancer alive. mods are to extend the game and to keep the players ingame once they know it good enough. i am happy that i can tell you this as maybe our moddings and experiences of server management is the very most essential point for pursuit of our aims of keeping FL modern.
btw: some of my clients are already interested in the technique of modding. i am teaching them as much as i can, i give them links, too. all modders were gamers one day, and every new modder is an addition of discovery speed. the more we are, the faster we figure out modding secrets.
