Mod feature suggestion: Manual Battleship Turrets

Hi,
this is an idea plan of mine which some of you might find interesting (I am not modding anymore, so feel free to use this idea anyways):
Player will be able to get in a single turret of a battleship to defend it.Code structure plan:
- Base (for instance Battleship)
- Very much docking points (1 for each turret)
– A turret gets selected by docking at it
— At the “fake bases” the player can purchase for 0 credits a battleship turret “ship”
– The old one gets stored with FLHook (care about the sold prize of the old ship so no player can abuse this)
----- The ship can only have 0 speed/can’t move at all
------might be a problem with undocking and re-docking (however, FLHook might help here) then - Special weapons whcih can be only mouted at the battleship turrent ship
– Be aware that you might to trick with the collisions because the turrent ship might get moved by it (I just read in a other thread about making “phantom ships”, this might a solution)
Unfortunally I am not sure if this could work at player battleships, this might be way more tricky.
Is this whole plan possible?

Nice idea, would be great if it can be done, really.
But on the whole - I would much rather have a working sur exporter for MilkShape before this, and this is yet another distraction! :roll:

i think it’s a good idea but prolly not for a game like freelancer. i mean, if you have the possiblity of flying an own fighter or capital ship exploring the universe and defending yourself and yourself only, why would you enter a turret and fire from one place? without motion you’re an easy target, with the cursor being free on the screen you cannot aim with forward guns that good. intercepting the fighters in order to defend the battleship is just kinda more fun. maybe a total conversion with a specific story background and ambience could however use that concept.

Well…might result in better atmosphere. maybe a good idea for ToW?
Plus it would be…simple different. Do not forget that your battleship has usually a lot of HP so …you won’t die such easy even though you can’t move at all. (Do destroy the turrets after BS got killed: No shield for turrets, high amount of HP (maybe…decide for yourself) and a small radius explosion of the BS that will kill all turrets off.
