Widescreen problems and JFLP
-
Hey all,
Like many others, I’ve been trying to get Freelancer to run in proper widescreen (1920x1080 in this case) and like many others, I have been pointed to Jason’s Freelancer Patch.
The issue is it doesn’t appear to be working.
Just to be sure, I installed everything in the following order
Freelancer -> 1.1 patch -> JFLP -> Hardware support update -> JFLP (again, because it didn’t seem to be working the first time)
I also installed FLDMM and activated the HD Texture 1.2 pack.
I ran the game and immediately found out that I need to run it in compatibility mode in order for the game to work (I’m using Win7). No big deal. I turn that on and get a warning message stating that the game does not recognize my video card (Radeon 4850). I thought this was odd because I installed the hardware update.
Game comes up (but doesn’t play the opening logs or cinematic) and arrives at the menu in some godawful resolution. I went to the option screen and the options it lists are
1024x768x16
1152x768x16
1280x960x16
1600x1200x16
1024x768x32
1152x768x32
1280x960x32
1600x1200x32Did I screw something up here?
I’ve never really messed with mods or unofficial software so I dont know if its typical for stuff to just not work for everyone or I goofed up somewhere.

Thanks Adoxa.
That fixed it right there.
I have the newest hardware update. I’m not sure why I’m getting the warning message. The game seems to be running correctly so far.

The new hardware update, as it says, should work with pretty much everything. All I can think of, is you have a different vendor id. Can you go to Device Manager -> Display adapters -> <your card=“”>-> Details. You should now be on Device Instance Id, which should show you something like PCI\VEN__XXXX_&…. XXXX is four hexadecimal digits, which should be 1002 for ATI. If it is, it should be working; if not, that’s why not - add it to the list.</your>
