What's the supposed trouble with FreelancerSDK-v1.5beta ?
-
Just did a fresh install:
- The Game
- the 'no cd’exe
- Patch 1.1
- QuickFix
Usually I also install FreelancerSDK-v1.5beta on top of this, but because I’m under the impression many modders seem to hold the opinion there are issues with this, including Louva-Deaus himself, I didn’t do so this time.
And now, FLScan reports a bunch of erroneous _prisonder encounters that apparently got corrected in FLSDK-v1.5beta…
So, I just installed FLSDK-v1.5beta on top of the afore mentioned. Never change a winning team.
But why isn’t the FLSDK-v1.5beta popular? Or is the impression I got simply wrong?

It’s just that there was some comment about problems with 1.5 and then no more info.
So I just used 1.3 a long time ago and added my own fixes, and added more since. So I can’t go back to 1.3 or any other because I will lose the fixes I made.
Louva didn’t explain the Quick Fixes to my satisfaction either, so I never used them.

Nice. Sorta doing the same, as it goes, but based o n 1.5

IIRC QuickFix is 1.3 (possible updated) + the hardware patch. Maybe more.

As far as the ini files go, the only difference is the QuickFix has engines for the battleship bases, the SDK does not. JFLP went with the SDK, since my focus was on removing spew warnings. I added some things from 1.5 (search jflp.txt for*** ), but not all.**

I really appreciate (understatement) most of your work, but found the JFLP to implement so many changes that I’ve only installed it and deinstalled it right away. IIRC it removed the entire hud.But - it was only recently that upgraded the game to 1.1 Maybe my bad experience with your SDK was based on a bad install (it might very well be that I installed on a 1.0 game… can't say for sure though). And I do hate FLSpew warnings so maybe I should give it another chance... How different is the game supposed to be with your patch?**

Not much different at all - that’s why I called it a patch, not a mod. It adds 8-way strafing and a couple of other controls, allows rolling in third view and “true” widescreen support, but mostly just fixes things (jflp.txt describes exactly what I did; make sure you get the updated DLL, too). If you had no HUD, it sounds like you installed the ini files, but not the dll - cameras.ini sets all fovx to 0, letting jflp.dll calculate it automatically, to support the various aspect ratios. The next version will handle that differently so a disappearing HUD doesn’t occur.
