Need help - adding room
-
Greetings,
I’m new here, though I have been spending some time modding Freelancer. Nothing too serious, though - currently three of us, all friends, are creating a mod just for our pleasure.
However, I ran into some trouble and I need some help. More precisely, I need someone who is willing to add my model as a shipdealer room. I tried my luck in THN editing, but it is way above me, I couldn’t even get it to work by simply replacing the Manhattan shipdealer, but keeping all the hardpoints. Man, I couldn’t even change the room’s ambience/music without causing a black screen!
What I need is a small animation sequence. I don’t ask for much modifications, but some are necessery. It’s OK if Trent uses the same movement as in the Manhattan shipdealer’s room, and I don’t need the ships to be shown, and not even the ship dealer (character). What should, however, pose some problems is that the room is a bit small, like 1/8th of the Manhattan shipdealer’s size.
I’d also need a basic camera movement when entering the room. It would be nice, and I would greatly appreciate if another animation could be done when the player clicks on the ship dealer’s button. However, what I only need is the room working in FL. Every time I tried it just didn’t work.
If someone has the time and feels it is possible, then please reply and I’ll send the model and more details in e-mail. This is one of those three animations I really wanted to get in our little mod, though this is the one I really want to have in-game. Could you help me out?

This morning, I met my friend and he said that there are different types of CMPs, a thing I didn’t know. Please consider my request null and void, I got to know what my mistake is and I succesfully added my room, by using a fairly simple method of adding the room as a compund object, the model defined as a solar in solararch.

there are no different cmp types. you can define the cmp’s to be used as different types of objects, but the model file itself is always the same. i’d suggest to define it rather as a prop or a room in the .\data\petaldb.ini - it requires less bytes to write, less errors you can make and you have rooms where all the other rooms are, too.

I tried to do so, but unfortunately I miserably failed. I could see the shipdealer’s background, the two characters (Trent and the shipdealer), but everything else was black void. He said that I made a mistake by exporting it via MilkShape, using the CMP exporter, and defining my object as a ‘ship’.

MilkShape version is 1.8.4
CMP Exporter vesion is 0.3
Options:
Orientation: Back to Front
Model Type: Ship
Scale Down: 1.0
LOD: 1
No. of groups: 1
And I always loaded a settings file, because I know that there is some bug with the exporter concerning the settings if you do not use a saved setting file.
After exporting the CMP, I updated the CMP with the Freelancer MAT exporter, v1.0However, when I exported the whole file into a 3DB and created a MAT file next to it, added it into the solar\misc folder, defining it in solararch and adding it into the THN as a compound object I had no problems at all. I can handle the room without a problem.
