.blend -> ship?
-
I’m kinda new to the whole modding thing. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to turn a .blend model into a flyable ship?
Thanks in advance.

Assuming blender can export into .obj, do so with your model.
Once that’s done, follow Drizzt’s Ship building tutorial (if you can’t find it or it’s not in the downloads section lemme know and I’ll attach it), but skip the ship modelling part, obviously.
It’s a great tutorial that takes you from start to finish making a FL model, though if I remember correctly it doesn’t cover making a sur.
EDIT: Name seems rather familiar… DIsco? xD

Yes, I’m from Disco. Okay, I’ve exported to .obj (hope I did it right)… looking for the tutorial.
EDIT: It does not seem to be in the Downloads section. Or if it is, it’s not in an intuitive location.

I use blender for example, more exactly 2.49b.
I model / texture ship with blender in combination with kHed at UV mapping as cylinder (i dont like how blender map cylinder).
Then model i export as wavefront OBJ to kHed where i fix the group/ texture names because blender makes a mess in their names, scale the object X1000 (in default the blender 2.49`s OBJ exporter scales 0.01 the model- dont know why).
After some fixes in kHed i export as ms3d .
I think you can directly import OBJ into milkshape ,but personally i like better the group , texture and more important the smoothing groups manipulation in khed.
Khed is a free 3D modelling program - http://khed.glsl.ru/
From milkshape i think all of the guys know how to export into freelancer 3D and surface formats and are plenty of detailed tutorials here on TSP.
If you have any questions about blender feel free to ask . -
I tried using Milkshape, but the last time I tried, my whole model was reduced to a single vertex.
-
That’s probably what your model would look like if it’s been scaled down by a factor of 0.001.

Here’s an online link for the tutorial.
I’ll upload to the downloads section a little later.
EDIT: Seems it was already there.

Thanks Bob. Am looking.
