[Star Citizen News]Chris Roberts announces Announcement Date for new game!
-
I can’t get excited about possible space sims anymore after having been so consistently let down in the past.
This news has broken that trend. I get more and more excited the more I look around the site. We still don’t know what it is. It could be anything at this point, but I don’t really care. This is the most exciting space sim related news I’ve heard in a very long time.

btw.:
Hello everyone!
I hadn’t planned on writing another message so soon after launching this “underground” site, but because of the amazing outpouring of excitement and support I felt I couldn’t wait.
Thank you.
I am both humbled and excited to see so many people sign up with just the buzz from the various fan sites that spread virally.
As I write this the count of fellow space gamers stands at 6,897!
Pretty impressive when you consider this started from a few Freelancer fans discussing the fact that they wanted a sequel on Reddit and started wondering what I was up to. A few online searches later and some good sleuthing they stumbled across this site, when we had just happened to drop the wall to test some of the registration code. Seven fans signed up before we realized that the outside world was arriving before we were ready!
The Magnificent Seven.
From that ripple came the tidal wave.
One of the reasons why I took this route as opposed to the more traditional one is that I have been constantly amazed by the enthusiasm and talent shown by all of you for my previous work. You have skinned other games to be in the Wing Commander universe, built detailed 3D models of what were much simpler ones back in the day, modded Freelancer to be able to do things we never considered, and extended its life much longer than anyone dreamed.
A key goal on my new game is to involve you all in the process early to help shape the world alongside myself. So please continue to participate in our Citizens Forums, Comm-Link and Polls!
In the meantime I need to get back to coding so you’ll have something cool to see next month
Yours humbly,
Chris Roberts

Yeah, anyone may register by standard wp form without entering access code.
Exellent, good words

I really like the fact he has been enthused about what advances people have done with Freelancer - and the constant mention is bringing hope that this may be more Freelancer 2 than WC x.
After reading one topic in particular on that site though, I really hope the few thundering ego’s who have (imo) tragically straddled Freelancer, imposing their self righteousness, don’t damage the perception of the entire fan base.
Other than that, still giving a big WOOOHOOO! Posted about it on the Egosoft forums, as I know a fair number there enjoyed Freelancer as well
Times like these it’s a good job I don’t have the archive membership list… I’d be mass emailing people with a link

I want the graphics of Eve Online, but the gameplay of Freelancer. Nuff said. Oh and being able to walk on the planets. Not the whole planet, that would be too much time spent on development. Just the small part. I also wanted to take a walk in New London or one of the gardens with the panorama windows on one of the Freeports.
About Why’s comment, that pic reminds me of a website I have been roaming in sadness and hope about how a new Freelancer could look like:

We’ve all grown since the release of Freelancer and while I didn’t care about the details back in the day, the first question that came into my mind was the funding. Where will Roberts get the money and how can he convince those publishers to give space shooters one more chance?
The last thing I was really excited about was Jumpgate Evolution which was cancelled. It really looked like a 2011 version of Freelancer.

At this point, I’d be happy for anything. Even if his game doesn’t live up to my expectations (highly unlikely because I’ve enjoyed all of his other games immensely) it can only do good for a genre that is more or less dead. Hopefully it is successful enough to inspire other developers to follow suit.

We already have projects like Kinetic Void that are promising great things for space sims in general (provided they pan out, obviously).
What we do not however have is a multiplayer space sim that’s not EVE. This is why I hope it’s multiplayer in one form or another, preferrably following the FL model so that we don’t end up with another Black Prophecy (which is closing down this month, a year and a half after release).

@ Mini_Me good to see your Nomad Hive ships I worked on a mod that used them a while back and they looked great!
This Chris Roberts fella really has injected a lot of enthusiasm back into FL and space sims, over 8000 replies in the poll and over 2000 posts in four days!
Great to see it!

Financial problems. I’m guessing they didn’t get enough people playing for their freemium model to pan out. Bit of a shame, but the little I tried of it was so derivative, boring and laggy that I’m not terribly surprised.

As i see from rumors they used IP Block at the servers
Think is it normal to block half of the planet of players? -
Well, it certainly did rather stop me from ever considering paying them, since I couldn’t play it at all due to said IP block.
