Hi guys!
Just realised I should have introduced myself before posting elsewhere yesterday lol!
I’m a huge Freelancer fan and have been lurking this & other FL forums for years. Completed the game multiple times and quite enjoy modding its graphics to take away some of it’s age. I guess I can’t call myself a superfan as I don’t play any FL multiplayer as I’ve always been more of an old fashioned single player with most ganes. Although I quite enjoy watching videos of Discovery games.
I can’t program and I’m not much of an artist but I’m not too bad with pixel art and retro stuff so I try to help fan projects where I can. I’m the creator of Star Trek Doom & Quest for Glory IV 3D Hexen which recently got some attention on Rock, Paper Shotgun and PC Gamer which was a nice surprise considering the simplicity of my work haha.
I run a retro Freelancer Legacy gaming website that covers the official game and a lot of the big fan made addons I can find out there as there’s such an amazing fan community here creating so much cool content. Have already posted more about it in your Freeport Freelancer Discussion forum as I’m always looking for fan help on spotting projects I don’t know about.
Great to finally be here!

Interesting.
I also started decades ago with creating new campaigns for doom. The tools back then were a mess but probably today they still are. -
Oh it’s like night and day mate. The amazing tools available now are exactly why I got back into it after nearly 20yrs lol!
Back in the 90s I was using Deep & Dck to edit my levels and NWT to import new graphics and sounds. All dos based, endless crashes and road blocks lol.
These days there’s no better option than Doom Builder, it allows you to create maps for not just default doom & hexen etc also the enhanced GZDoom versions that allow GL lighting, slopes, bridges and rooms above rooms and god knows how many other things you couldn’t do in the original Doom engine. The program Slade is the ultimate wad editing tool allowing you to change almost everything effortlessly & is still updated monthly. And finally GZDoom has become the ultimate choice for playing Doom engine games on modern systems with lots of awesome effects (sparks, smoke, fire, earthquakes etc). Pretty sure all these programs support linux & mac os too.
Still a very active community too. You go to the zdoom forums and there’s like a hundred new posts a day, I can never keep up with it all lol. A lot of active mod projects too, most way better than mine as while these programs above have allowed entry level people like me to create massive total conversion games they have also allowed people who are actually talented programmers and artists to do even more amazing stuff.

I just remembered how tricky it was in the first map editors to get the vertex orders right on complex rooms without causing clipping walls.
Still it was an experience I love to remember after all that time. -
Yeah you’d start the level and walk into a room of Bruce Lee - Enter The Dragon infinity mirrors haha.
Fortunately Doom Builder is really good at preventing that sort of thing happening. Only time I get the mirrors these days is when I stuff up a linedef setting & forget to use the error checker lol.
