Probably best to use the installer which is provided in two links. The problem was the game used an MS Server to tell you what Freelancer servers are online. They removed this server, so the community made their own version of it - and the installer at that location will make a little change so your game checks this server instead 🙂 The installer should do that for you - it comes in a rar file format. If you’re not familiar with rar - then it’s like zip, and many archive programs can deal with it. If nothing on your system does, then http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm is the place to find it. Rar works even when it’s “evaluation period” is over.
So extract the program from the rar, run it, and it’ll make a few changes to the ini file (hopefully…honestly, don’t know why they don’t just supply an ini file that you copy/paste over the existing one).
Hope that helps. It is the first thing you’ll probably need to do. However, if you continue having issues - that page I first link to is the place to start reading (depending upon platform) as some seem to have issues with Windows and Freelancer…the game was 2003 after all 😄
