Well, this is going to sound stupid, but, if you can’t outright fix this completely, you could work with it. Just state it as an “Emergency Power To Shields” subsystem that these ships have. It’s not perfect, hell, it’s probably not even a good idea, but if that’s what you have to work with, you may just have to use it to your advantage instead of a disadvantage. I know this doesn’t help your issue at all, sadly. Hope your mod comes along.

How hard would it be for one of you to create a plugin that allowed an explosion from a Mine or Missile, to pop a Dynamic Asteroid?
Recently got back into Freelancer again and wanted to pick up my mod concepts for others to use in their mods. Mainly the issue with large ships like the Mining Truck, or whatever it was called (can’t remember off the top of my head), needs a more efficient method of mining. The lasers thing works, but they’re better suited for smaller miners. Something as big as that miner needs a pulse type tool that can pop all the dynamic asteroid in a certain radius arround the ship to be effective.
If a Mine or Missile explosion can’t do the trick, would it be possible to increase the surface area or a cannon’s energy bolt to have the same effect?
Just something that I’ve been thinking about. Hope it’s something possible that you guys can figure out.

Well. After testing and fidling and CTD’ing, I got the mining pulse working using Bob’s method. As stated “It’s not perfect, it’s probably not even good, but it might work”, and it works, but it’s not af fast as just dropping a mine, then tractoring. So, that said, I’m making another tool, based on the new pulse generator, and it’ll be the Mining Drill. Yeah, sucks, but it’s what I have to work with until a hack or Hook plugin comes along that lets da’s be popped via mine-go-boom.

Well, I tryed that. Worked, sorta. As you said, I need to adjust the duration to the effect. My issue, as stated above, is looping. Is there a method of extending the duration of the sound effect without adding dead air to the end of the audio.wav?

Ok, trying to get used to MS3D again. Haven’t used it in a while, well, since my main modeling environment bit the biscuit. So, trying to get used to the limitations of Milkshape and chopped this ship together. If anyone wants it, just pm me, or, um, do whatever it is you do, lol.

I like it, looks nice. Maybe add a little Lib-Dred to the sides instead of those ramped out sections? Trying to think of what parts would look good there. Maybe the fins? Or that back section with all the indentation detail? Possibly on the top, on that flat section (not the bay doors) Have the top half of the dreads tower, or even the bubble section from the back end of the Osiris? Just throwing idea’s out. I’m sure you can make up your mind as to what looks right.

Please, dear god, somebody tell me you can produce this effect in Freelancer with that sound effect. I’ve been wanting to have an easter egg weapon like this ingame for some time. But the way the sound file works, and the effect animation works, I’m uncertain it can so simply. I’d love it if one of you, much wiser and more tallented scripter/coders, could pull this off for me. It’s a little piece of nistalgia that I’ve been missing in FL.

Damn, that carrier looks sexy. Just have to find a way to make the wingmen scripts work with launching from the ship via keystroke. So you could have a HW2 style carrier launch/scramble a wing of fighters/bombers.

That’s awesome. BP’s graphics can be good, ofcourse, as said with the correct machine. Mine is rather old already. Although, it plays Freelancer better than my last machine, lol. CCP did an amazing job with Eve. Parts of Eve I did like. It was just the absolute vastness with nothing in it that I didn’t much enjoy. Well, that and when you die, you loose your ship. That was annoying, but for the direction they wanted to go with the game, it worked.
As far as indie game developers versus blatent cash in games by big name companies? Yeah. I’m against that entirely. Cause it floods the market with cheap knockoffs and it just wastes everyones time, money, and patience.
What was said about lots of decent indie games being made and being over shadowed by the above mentioned games? I’ve been feeling that for some time now too. I’ve been hoping and praying for another game that can surpass what I loved in Warzone 2100, as I am for Freelancer. That’s not to say there aren’t games out there that aren’t any good. There are, but they are not Freelancer by any shape of the imagination. I know I shouldn’t really be using FL as my benchmark about what makes a game good or bad, but I want to play something that game me the same level of satisfaction as FL did. I’m sure alot of people feel the same way, since this game hasn’t died over the last ten years. Well, soon to be ten years, my disk says 2003 on it.
I think the most indie game I’ve played in the last 2 years is probably Alien Shooter Vengeance. They did reuse a lot of their own material when it came to making other games and dequals. Like Zombie Shooter 2, Alien Shooter 2: Conscription. I still liked Alien Shooter Vengeance over the other two. Conscription felt more like a beta then an actual final release though. I ended up getting caught in walls, hung up on nothing, all kinds of weird stuff like that. I do like that as mentioned, they are reusing old worlds/maps even “modding” their own material to make new games (though I’m sure for them it’s not modding, since they own the source).
I stated before that the community here on TSP has put out a magnificent amout of content, and still wonder why it hasn’t gotten the spit-shine and dropped into an engine that could better facilitate the current communities needs. I don’t want to sound pushy about this point. “Damn lazy modder community isn’t doing a damn thing to move ahead with a new engine when there’s many to choose from”. That’s not the case at all. Every time I pop by TSP and Mod DB it’s always a treasure chest opening for me. There’s so much good coming from everyone here. I can’t help but want more for everyone. May be greedy of me, but Freelancer will eventually reach it’s limit and that’s going to be a sad day for everyone. Really like what’s happening with FLHook though. That’ll keep it going for a good while yet.

You know, if it were possible to make mines with an auto turret and it understood friend from foe… or even just understood to shoot at unfriendly factions, they would make great drone fighters.

But yeah, if I decrease the damage to almost nothing, then increase the health of loot, that should keep it from being eaten by the mining tool. Someone mentioned to me before that it’s possible to give a mine a weapon. Giving a mine two of those and no abilety to move would certainly work. Yeah. What is it with this last decade and maybe getting one decent game a year. And I don’t mean one per genre, I mean one total. There have been so many craptastic remakes of battlefield, and the mmo genre is over saturated too.
Looks like certain companies have been trying to make something to compete with Freelancer, but with no obvious success. I even tryed Eve. And yes, I know, they are as opposite as day and night as far as space sims go. I just wish a new CCP type company would surface that put that kind of effort into a new Freelancer.
Eve had the unrivaled scale, much like Sins of a Solar Empire does. The thing that I didn’t like about it, that I’m sure all freelancer players don’t like, is the impersonal relationship between player and ship, and in my case, the hugeness of the systems. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy large maps, and I know they were trying to aim for the realism that space is huge and vast, but it’s a game. Keep it interesting. Which is why after a couple months (litterally, 2 months) I just went back to freelancer. The maps might not be as huge, but there’s more content per map. Do have to say, I miss Concord when pvp’ers try killing me in the start system.
So I guess what we really need to do, is find out/make a large detailed list of everything we know and love from Freelancer, and list off everything that it didn’t do that we wish it did do, and all the extra support features, then, see what can be done about them. Game engines are becoming less and less costly. And since FL has survived this many years on just modding alone, you’d think the community would just step in and agree to work on developing their own open source version of Freelancer 2. Hate to say it, but that’s the only way it’s going to happen.
I’m sure if half of the community would dedicate to putting down $10 a month for the next year or two, that could help cover the expenses for coders and content developers to work on the project. I wonder if enough people would read this and take it seriously enough to really give it some thought. I know we all want a new, modder friendly, up to date Freelancer engine to work with.

As far as I can tell, the closest thing that we could get to a new freelancer would have to be Galaxy Empire.
Though still very much in development, it’s got alot of potention and I’d love do work on this project with them, if it wasn’t for my lack of skill with a 3d editor or decent programing skills. That said. If I were given the oportunity, I would gladly stop what I’m doing and do a total freelancer conversion to that engine.

Those ships look great. I’m wondering if you have LOD mesh’s to go with them, or how the LOD’s would look. I’m sure I don’t need to be concerned with performance on PC’s these days though.

@ Bobthemanofsteel: That’s how I set up the mine, but the mine explotion wouldn’t cause the dasteroids to break. Good that we were both on the same page as far as ideas went though.

Unless someone else know what dll would need to be altered or if it’s the exe itself. Can’t remember which people have been editing off the top of my head. Been at a lan all weekend playing FL. Was much fun.

A while ago a friend of mine was working on modular ships for Freelancer and had me make a bunch of random pieces with a texture just thrown on that we could use to make the ships ingame. Well, unfortunately, he never finished the coding or whatever happened. Not sure on the details, was a while ago. So I just kinda played Lego with them and designed a few ships that I though looked ok. Or atleast, I would have tryed to make ingame had the pieces worked corectly. So, since this is a thread for showing off ships and such, I give you, my horribly textured wrecks of art, lol.
If, for some odd reason someone likes these, just PM me and I’ll let you use them. Please feel free to retexture them if you if you want. I’d love to see how you improove on them.

I suppose no-one has come across this yet? Would it be possible to maybe give a gun’s munition the abilety to explode after it leaves the muzzle?

One thing I’d really like to know is; is it possible to “spawn” the wingmen from your ship via key press? I’d really love to add Drones to specific ship classes and even have Battleships and Carriers (like the carriers from discovery) actually function as such. Would love to get in a scrap with a bunch of gunboats and scramble the bombers.
