Try running the game as administrator. Most MS game don’t play nice with newer versions of Windows. It’s not that they can’t be backward compatible, MS wants you to play X-Box.

Anyhow, it works fine on my Vista and Vista-7 laptops. Just open the icon properties and select the compatibility tab, you’ll see it.

I also like to hot-key it to use Ctrl-Alt and a letter or number to open the game.
