I might not be very active here but I’ll probably be hanging around the FLHook area. Ever since our switch on SWWT that “to-do” list just never seems to get any smaller. Oh well more practice, knowledge, and facepalm moments never hurt anyone.

Like when I was scouring the code trying to find out why I couldn’t use FLHooks decode function to decode .fl files in a plugin, spending way to long trying to get it to work, only to ask FF and have him go “Oh, that’s not exported. Use flcodec.”

    -_-;

I’ll look into using that then instead …

As you can probably see I’ve placed the widescreen fix in conventional modding.

After a brief test I have noticed several interface sections like the server list and character screens have sections out of alignment, I’m going to have to fix that after I look into UI element positioning.

Just did that as a quick fix for myself to start with, thanks to a handy tutorial to do with tekagis treasure mod.

Nice and easy mod to start with 🙂

    Welcome 🙂

No mod advert from me 🙂 simple reason is my taste may not be your taste 🙂

Check out forum links at the top of the page read some players posts (ie) mod content ships, trade, weapons, systems, and what the mod is based around.

There are total sci fi mods out there ,pure pvp mods (player versus player combat) , Big community mods , Small community mods .

As i would say there is a mod to suit every players tastes and all the communitys big or small help players 😛

I believe 24/7 FREELANCER UNIVERSE is pretty much vanilla - they have an optional mod, though in truth I haven’t visited there in a LONG time, things may have changed.

    check them out: http://www.freelancer-universe.com

Never thought any one here would know this great game series on the PSX except me!

    I know, it was great!

This is my model for the S-21 Eclipse from the first game(My personal favorite). It’s still needs more vertex’s, to be smoothed out, and some texturing of course. But its under 300 polygon’s right now and all made from a single sphere ;D

The difficult part is the orginal models im basing them off of from the game were extremely simple. Leaves alot of work to the imagination 😕

I’m pretty sure most large mods actually change the base engine speeds already, from like 40 to 120 😛

Sry for another double post, but I found something new.

When ya go to the goods.ini and edit f.e. the br_bat_package so that ya only have the hull, a power plant and an engine you still get kicked after you bought it. :-
    Thats freaking my mind 😢

    Greetings Jumper,

After checking the toolbar links, be sure to visit each mod’s forum and look for the server rules. In those you will almost always find out how their TAGS are used. Tags help you identify the server Admins and Police, who generally help out any new players on the server with tips and such. Don’t rush into joining a clan right when you first step into the server; get to know the players and clans before making an informed choice. Explore a bit and see if it’s the right mod for you. I really haven’t run across a mod I didn’t enjoy though. Remember that these servers have their own communities, so forum use helps get to know players there as well, and can get you help starting out / discovering the mod.

*** Be sure to visit the Player Tips section here on The Starport for further notes on how to install mods, and Global Server workaround.

Howdy Xeathos, welcome to Freelancer.  In single player there is a set story line to follow, with options to take little side-quests along the way and do trade runs as well. Vanilla (stock FL with no mods) ends around level… hrm 20 or 30? (been a while) It’s a pretty cool story by itself, but after you finish that the side-quests are pretty much the only quests you’ll do in multi-player. One side-note, only in single player can you do the full storyline.
But there is plenty of fun to be had in MP with so many mods out there; new ships, new star systems, re-done graphics, better AI for NPC’s, hire-able wing men, jazzed up effects, custom music and sound / voice, custom factions, and almost every one changes their trade routes and goods.  For me some of the most fun was just exploring and finding new items or new foes. But the PVP can be verry fun too >:) As others have said, its physics are not like regular space flight. Which gives the possibility of flying ships that handle like mad, or trade off a little and haul bunz, or have a crazy load-out. The other cool thing in MP is that most enable Capital Ships for player use, and up the cash limit to ~2 billion.

Anyhoo, you’ll want FLMM -freelancer mod manager- to get mods installed. Extensions are .flmm which are either a zip file, or 7zip (usually that will be in the file name, if it’s 7zip you want FLMM 1.4, otherwise stick to 1.3).  There should be a getting started thread around here listing all the updates and global server work-arounds to get you up and running. That last one is handy because Microsoft finally pulled the plug on their server listings, so the community had to come up with their own solution. Many servers also list how to connect directly via making a shortcut with the server IP as a switch. It might sound like a lot, but after you’ve done it once or twice it’s pretty easy after that.

Good luck, and good hunting 😃

EDIT:: woops, almost forgot! Very important, be sure to write down your multi player ID for backup, if you re-install that number will change, and it is how your characters are stored on all multi-player servers. Look in the \Freelancer\EXE\ directory, double click myflaccountid.hta and thats what you’ll need to write down.

Hi MFGusto, sorry it took me so long to find your message and reply.

Please come to our forum & post up, read our members’ comments, and have a look at our mod, you can download it from our forums.

We’re a bunch of older guys, the benefit is we don’t blast every newcomer we see, we help you get started. We won’t lend big money loans to get you a big bad ship without sweat, instead we will team up with you and help you amass your first fortune quickly, enjoyably, and by your own sweat and panic!

Look for Dark Uncle, Hierarchy, Kindred, Lestard, Mystify, who have the most knowledge of our new mod already, but anyone on the server will be happy to help.

We unfortunately have some irritating bugs in our mod that we hope to resolve shortly, but our slant on Freelancer is a little different, as you will see from your starting ship & role!

We hope it will appeal to a variety of players, and we hope to see you there soon.

As others have recommended, do try several mods, you can download them from their parent websites, but you will need Freelancer Mod Manager to change between them. You can get it from most mod forums including ours. If you have problems just put up a post and you will get help.

All the best whichever way you decide to go.
