Hey mike, good to have you here. TSP got loads of tutorials and such, if you want to learn Freelancer modding, this is the place to do it. 😛

Would do, but I haven’t been able to get FL running at my system till yet.

I would be having some serious withdrawls. 😄

however in terms of ballance and realism most mods have hightened prices for capships, starting from hundreds of thousands and up to hundreds of millions per ship. if you want to play neither fair nor ballances singleplayer, best suggestion would to mod it yourself. its pretty easy, fast and you can make it such heavy that it starts getting boring to play.

HK: is FL not the best game ever? 😛
well, many gamers, especially ego-shooter players are very concentrated on graphics but fortunately most of the gamers out there play games with a good engine and good ideas, even if those are on two dimensions only. Freelancer is a great game and advertisement is the only thing it needs. advertisement of mods btw is unnecessary and even agains the aim. once people get bored with the game, they search for hacks and for mods themselves. the more players learn to know vanilla, the more mods they play afterwards. also it is difficult to talk about mods if you do not know what they changed actually. it is important to keep the original name of Freelancer alive. mods are to extend the game and to keep the players ingame once they know it good enough. i am happy that i can tell you this as maybe our moddings and experiences of server management is the very most essential point for pursuit of our aims of keeping FL modern.
btw: some of my clients are already interested in the technique of modding. i am teaching them as much as i can, i give them links, too. all modders were gamers one day, and every new modder is an addition of discovery speed. the more we are, the faster we figure out modding secrets.

if it’s only about weap and ship specs, you would need an SDK (pack with decrypted versions) of the ini files (yes its far better than the bini decoder) and a simple text editor such as notepad. tutorials on conventional coding thingies you can find in their greatest amount over at the starport archive in the freelancer community network. the structure of ini files is quite simple and fast to understand, the single parameters however are to learn like vocabulary of a foreign language except for they sound nearly the same what they mean. also, take a look on the starport wiki modding database. it is quite incomplete yet but you will find explanations for several files more technical and presize than several tutorials would give.

and welcome to The Starport 😉

in the freelancer community network you can find the Starport Archive. the tutorials section there contains most of the common basics while this forum here is more advanced therefore more accurate with variables. however, especially the coding basics are better to be looked up over at the archive.

Rubbish “9,000 Gigs of RAM and a 64-way 90-T-Flop Cray for running Freelancer” is no where near enough to do anything. Need a lot more than this…

    and welcome back.

Well, it seems you are well enough in English to understand almost we write here, so there shouldn’t be any problems in MP. Even at most non-international servers there are admins and players who are able to speak English to you anyways.

    <–- treckie, too

well, it does not look like an intrepid. this warp nacelles are a bit too big and in general, except for the saucer section it looks not too massive. it is surely a tng design, but looks more like fanart than like the series.

Well… Thanks for the help guys but since our forum has gone AWOL once again, I guess that I should just leave the server with Evolutions mod for now, on the server list as:

    24/7 Lansdalegaming.com EVO 1.28

    Welcome back!

There are two main places that I can think of to search for the mod that fits you. This first is on this site here:

    http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewforum.php?forum=38

    The second is over here:

I had Pizza Hut on Friday, and watched some movies over at a friends house. I’ve been hungry for Pizza for a long time now :-P. About ready to start preheating the oven :pint:.
