Vista and multiplayer.

My friend is using Vista and he cannot connect to a server he is hosting on a different connection, nor another server running the same mod. Though when I connect to either server I successfully get ingame. And the strange thing is about 2-4 months ago he was able to connect to his own server using a different mod. The only differences are 1. the IP has changed 2. the mods have changed and 3. I was using a program to monitor ports and the port may have changed from 2302 to 2351.

Well he needs to use the correct port whatever way he’s using to connect.
If no one can connect he may check the “make server internet accesible” option when he starts the FL without any servertool.
U may need to tell your server that FLserver.exe is allowed to connect to the internet.
If the server is connected to a router u may need open the right ports. -
Agree with Mindhunter… this is almost certainly a ports issue not a Vista issue.
Do the usual, check the (Windows) Firewalls make sure the right ports are open. Check his router make sure the right ports are open.
I’ve also found that disabling UAC may help with general gaming issues.Though not the biggest fan of Vista, I think it is time to dispell any myths that Freelancer won’t run on Vista. I’ve been running FL on Vista for 12-15 months and it’s been no more or less stable that it was on XP.
Good luck…

theres alot of posts with problems of this at the void forums www.voidserver.com
try uninstalling any non-windows firewall

Yeah I figured I’d have him change the port to 2351(since I’m seeing traffic there when FL is on) and see what happens there. Anyays I wasn’t sure and wanted to get your 2 cents but I can’t help be seeing you get the wrong impression of what exactly the problem is. The server is fine there is no problem with it its just one computer that cannot connect to that server nor another one someone else set up.

Certain types of antivirus software supposedly keeps Freelancer from working online at all when running under Vista.
Norton antivirus software is supposed to be one of them, if I recall correctly. If he has it installed on his computer, he’ll have to remove it entirely - disabling it won’t be enough.

Here’s a link from the discovery forums regarding vista and FL. It’s entitled “Need help getting FL to work on Vista?” Might help, might not… http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9310
