EVE models in Freelancer
-
Wanted to share some knowlegde of models and Freelancer and i was bored on this saturday. Not sure if anybody did this before, but i have it working now An example, the Amar Armargeddon in Freelancer.

Picture 4This is an ship with a polygoncount of 3200. As you see, the ship looks like it can need a wash. Most ships are around that count (except the titans, there are around 10.000-25.000). I’ve extracted the ship to 3ds max, then to milkshape and then to cmp :). The maps are done with uv mapping. It also contains shaders, alltough didn’t had atm the idea to get them out of the EVE game data. The things which you can extract are atm:
1. Station model incl texture
2. Ship model incl texture
3. Weapon model incl texture
4. Music -
Those links aren’t working.

Altho its perfectly acceptable to draw inspiration from the EVE models to make ones “similar” to it

Wot, like a sphere or cylinder you mean?
Or maybe a single Face? Edge? Maybe a Vertex?
Surely IBM must have patented those before EVE existed…
Nuts, I forgot to patent the wheel last time I re-invented it!
Just kidding, its 05: something and uh… well, you know my typical response to this kind of warning…
G’night all.

Just a thought…
Is it OK to load in a model in a modelling proggie and make your own primitives and stretch them over the groups to get a similar shape, and then delete the original groups you imported?
Uhh… oh and make your own textures though, of course?
How about fishes? Fish-shaped ships? My idea! Ah drat, God already made them! Nuts.
Aha! Now I understand why the vanilla FL ships are so darned UGLY! They have to be, to be original, 'cos all the nice shaped ships anyone could possibly design already belong to someone!
Still grumbly.

Heheheh…
Glad my post is being taken with humour, as it was meant, don’t want anyone getting upset again!
