Guys,
I don’t want to sound like the spoil sport but I need to raise this point.
In the past this has been tried, most recently ‘Uberlancer’ which I was a part of and a few others from here. Many projects were also started based off the back of Lancers Reactor. Each one unforunately falling to the wayside.
It’s good to see people fired up over a project, and it shows promise when so many other ‘semi-new’ faces also want to get involved. It does go to show that the community is not dead and still alive.
A few things then to avoid:
Ego’s!
Oh yes the community does have them. And this is the main factor that has always doomed a project to fail. When you have so many talented modders, coders and Graphics experts all working on the same thing people get hurt, upset and angry. Everyone has a slightly different vision and unfortunately not all visions/ideas come to fruitation.Lack of Communication
It doesnt matter how many forums/threads and meetings you have, miscommunication and the lack of it is always a key factor in a project failing. To avoid this make sure each person is 100% sure and confident that they know what role they have to play. If you are unsure; ask! If you know someone else is unsure, make sure you realiterate to them what thier responsibility is.Lack of interest…
Yes, interest is lost over time. Everything starts well, and at somepoint people drop out of projects. Not always because of lack of interest but also because of RL getting in the way. The last thing you want is 70% of the people involved to drop out and leave the work to 2 or 3 people who just cant cope.So how do you get around those? Well to be honest, there isnt a 100% fail safe route you can take. You have the best start over everyone else and that is the fact you have the backing of The Starport and the team here who have between them years of experience. And through them you have access to the large majority of the remaining players left in the FL Community.
With all of this said, the project (mini projects) has my full support and I will never put anyone down for trying. Without people trying something new we would never (as humans) be where we are in the 21st Century. But I just wanted to prep people for what might happen.
Looking at the names of the people already involved and the interest already shown, I have a lot of confidence and faith in this area.
Thats it, my rant is over. Please remember, although the content of my post may of been of a negative nature, it is hoped reading this you will be more determined to finish and make a success of it.
Faithfully,
Roo-Avery

yes there is a risk of failing, but theres also a risk of actually make it even more alive ;D
Agreed, which is why I stress the point; my post was not to put you guys down, but to hopefully encourage you all to make it a success.
