Looking to create a small mod team
-
Hi all!
I’ve currently started work on a mod for freelancer. I was going to do this solo for various reasons, however, I believe a few more hands (at most… you know what they say about too many cooks) will help things along nicely. I am more than familiar with the scripting of the game among other things, but where I lack tends to be the modelling/3d/artistry side. And this brings up some positions. So, i’m really looking for the the following types of people:
- Ship/base modellers (good with progs such as 3dsmax)
- Artists (for splash screen graphics, web banners, promotional stuff)
- Market Modders. This needs a little more info, so i’ll elaborate. I would like people who have experience with adding and modifying the commodity market. I’d like to get more items in there, but without going overkill and spoiling the original balance of the game. All additions need to be well thought out, so people can’t exploit certain trade routes etc when the mod is finished. So this person(s) would need to be a logical thinker.
- Beta testers. It’s early days yet, but it would be good to know of a selection of people beforehand that would be available to fire up the mod and test out various things when the time comes. If there is anyone out there that would be willing to do this and ‘pencil your name in’, that would be great.
Not a load of posts, but it’s ample for now. Overall I am looking for trustworthy, hard working people. I’ve seen in the past when people get involved with mods and then just drift off or do a half-hearted job. Which I don’t want obviously.
So if anyone has any experience and wishes to be part of a new up-and-comer, you’re more than welcome to drop me a PM/Email and we can discuss it further. When the mod is finished and a server is up and functional, should you play, you will be rewarded for the time/effort. And regardless of that, all of the team will have their names immortalized in the mod indefinately Wink

FuryFreelancer ,
Can give some more info about the mod you are creating?
What kind of features have you planned, is it a SP (single player) Multiplayer mod?Do you have new factions / systems or do you have them planned?
What kind of ships do you need?
Is it based on a theme other than the Freelancer story it self?
I think, before people will apply for it, people would like to know what you have planned or thought of, its so more fun to make something nice if you know what for you create it.

It would nice if you could gave us some idea of what you wanted to do. Now in regards to the mod if you could give a brief description of what you wanted to active and so on and so fort. To be honest in regards to mods and modding I have no experience. Aldould I openly admit I would like to be apart of a mod team. Be it for beta testing or whatever. I have been involved with mods such as frost-works, crossfire, free worlds, and vied to name a few. When I say involved I’ve played the mods and posted on forums and the like. And have got on with most people.
I’m just saying you should let us Know what you intended to do briefly as I’ve all ready stated and with the rest of the freelancer community, involved we can help you and shear ideas and the like with a bit of constructive criticism trowing into mix for a bit of a laugh :D. I Just wanted to add its grate to see freelancer and the freelancer community still thrive.

That they spoil the food! ;D
Yeah in my haste I neglected to mention a little background about the mod. It will be MP (naturally), set after the events of the game storyline, and will take a more natural route I think. I want to keep the balance of the original game and not re-work everything. In general, this ends up either spoling the balance in a big way, or just introduces bugs which never get fixed (speaking about numerous other mods here). Obvious stuff will be reworked as necessary, and new additions will be levelled to fit in with the existing stuff. I’d like to add new systems, planets, bases, ships, weapons, music, FX & SFX, factions, zones, asteroid fields, event areas, and so on. But all keeping a nice balance. Just giving people the opportunity to pick really unique setups and try to have a minimum of players with the same loadouts. This could prove very interesting i nthe future should this all take off.
On a side-note. Does anyone know of a decent dedicated server host? I say dedicated, because isn’t that what we need these days for freelancer? No host supports it natively, and even if they did we would still need desktop access to be able to install/configure utilities and manage player files. Dedicated servers are expensive ain’t they sooo… any ideas folks, so I can look ahead and be prepared? Cheers.

Well, I’m interested, but I’m far from what you would call a decent modeler, and I’m an even worse texturer. I’ve been trying to break the engine though, trying to find new things to do with the game that I really want to play with. Been looking for 2 specific pieces of information on TSP and so far, no dice. Really hoping I don’t have to write a new DLL myself… then horribly wrecking it.
That said, I am working on my own side project. It’s going no-ware in leaps and bounds. If you want to trade notes, just PM me. Hopefully I’ll see it.
