HELP Vista
-
I got myself a new PC with Windows Vista and I have had a lot of problems with FL since then.
First the with the UAC (User access control), then with DEP (Data execution prevention), then with FLMM (UAC didn’t allow FLMM to copy and replace .dll and .exe an etc. files from the mods directory into FL directory, so it only parsed xml’s and copied the .ini files. I’ve spent a lot of time until I finally realized the problem, which was wrong from the very start of running FLMM - it had to be run as an administrator. [Stupid vista] ).
Anyway, after dealing with all this issues I downloaded Disco and tried to activate it, and it worked I actually activated a FL mod after 2 whole days of trouble!!! Happy for my achievement I launched FL, and tried to connect to the server, when “Connection could not be established” O.k. I tought maybe a glitch, so I tried to connect to other servers with Disco 4.84, but I didn’t work. Then I decided to deactivate the mod and play vannila. And again it didn’t work. Angry, I made a fresh install of FL, put the workaround, and again tried to play vannila, and again it ain’t been a pretty picture. I tought it must be a firewall issue, so I deactivated the above mentioned one and again the same problem.
Does anybody know what to do? -
first off save the mod manager then right click the exec file and run as adminstrador. then when that is in stalled before you download any mods you have to right click on the mod manager icon
after that you can add mods to the mod manager then activate the mods . then do the same thing to the freelancer i con itself everything has to be run as administrator. also if you want to play on servers you will have to get rid of your anti virus if you run norton, macafee, avg, and some others
these sites give out free anti virus

thx, very much will try now.
-
it may also be the anti virus avg, norton, and macafee wont let you connect with servers the bit deffender or the avir will work also see if the ip version 6 is installed if so then uncheck the box and use ipv 4 instead. but it sounds like anti virus

For some reason with Vista most antivirus software prevent connecting to multiplayer servers, how and why I haven’t found an explination for this.
The only two antivirus programs that seem too work with Vista and don’t interfere with connecting to multiplayer servers that I know of are AVG and Avira AntiVir.
Fortunately both have free versions and work well with Vista. -
avg does not seem to work anymore i was using it and i got an update after that it stoped working. i have been testing out anti virus programs and the ones that work and that are free are bit defender which i am using right now and anvir those are what i found right now.

Thanks Richard
I haven’t tried to connect to a multiplayer server since Torch dragged me over to the Jolt server awhile back. At that time I couldn’t connect running Vista and after some painful checking it turned out to be the antivirus software.
I found that AVG, whatever version it was at that time, allowed me to connect to the multiplayer servers but it looks like if I decide to play again I’m going to have to go through the process of finding antivirus software that don’t conflict with connecting to multiplayer servers again. So thanks for the reply about anvir and bit defender working.
The plan is to get Lancers Reactor back up and running as it was back when I was running the show. In other words a great community with no conflicts between members and tons of content…
We now have an offer to host the site that would be hard to refuse. A virtual network where the site would be hosted by servers in data centers around the world.
If and when this happens we plan to expand Lancers Reactor into a gaming portal and most likely have an official TLR Freelancer Server up and running along with a Teamspeak server and other goodies…
There’s really no limit to what we will be able to do because we have been offered unlimited everything, meaning bandwidth, memory, harddrive space, etc…
So the future of the community looks like we’ll be in great shape…
One day you’ll have kids, don’t be surprised if they turn out to look and act just like me.
