Where Does Your Nickname Come From?
-
**In my case my nickname came about long before FL was even thought of. It did fit in perfectly though once it came about.
Talking about ancient history, back in 1986 I spent some time working with a group in HS teaching others how to care for children and one of the women there pulled out a lance. She was showing me how to properly use it so that is when I came up with Lancer, that is what I called the person who performs the lancing. Solurus came from an extension of Sol, our home star system. One nice thing is I have never found anyone else using that name anywhere so I continue to use it to this day.**

tongue in cheek
It all started back in WW’Nam. Were were fighting against battalions of VC. We called protective fires ‘danger close’ from artillery and close air support to keep our position from being overrun. But it was hopeless, there were too many of them for our small reconnaissance patrol. To allow my team to get to our extract. I stayed behind to man the 40 mega watt plasma cannon while the rest of my patrol ran to the verti-bird. Apparently the crew chief got the headcount wrong and they left without me. Needless to say I had to fight my way through 30 clicks full of enemy fighters. Thankfully I rescued Chuck Norris on the way, and we lived off nuts we picked out of bear poo, and killed hundreds of enemy fighters with our mono-blades and throwing stars.
When we got to our base, it was empty because politicians decided the war was immoral and they couldn’t find any WMD. Despite the fact I found 2 kilos of enriched uranium in a VC tunnel (which Chuck Norris “keestered” for safe keeping). So in the end, Chuck and I ended up trying to swim across the ocean to get home but got swallowed by a whale. Chuck killed the whale and we floated on the cadaver until we stumbled upon a raft manned by Cuban immigrants trying to get to Florida.
During this whole trip, Chuck didn’t know my name. He asked what it was, since I wanted to be as cool as his beard and spinning back-fist I said, “My name is Forsaken, commander of the 10th legion and loyal servant of Rome”
The end.
lol no more Jim Beam and Coke for me lol

I don’t have a real story behind my nick and it doesn’t have any connections to my RL name
All i would like to have is a short and concise name for in game and forum names. In former times i had a different and longer name - but it turned out that long names are inappropriate if you like to talk with persons and name them by their nick. (and we all know the fl chat is limited)
So i tried to find a short name and somewhat the “Huor” came to my mind (this is often used as shout in military either )
Later on i searched for an appropriate last name for Huor - and there i found Súrion (where google helped me to find the last name). So once i decided to name my nick “Huor Súrion” - and later had to learn this name is used in Tolkien’s stories as name for a Hobbit But i didn’t know of this relation as i have chosen this nick^^ weird accident - but nice -
All the other decent names starting with the letter ‘M’ where taken.
Hence this.
I also have ollivier and markus,
ollivier comes from my dog, whose original name was Ollie.
markus comes from the same strain as mapoubelle.Just out of curiosity, do you know what your name means in French?

Well, I’ll have a go. Nightstalker comes from the 160th SOAR Night Stalkers, These guys flew us into Somalia and watched our back while we did our job. Their sacrifice to stay on station and cover us will not be forgotten.

My nickname started off with a character name for a Star Wars chat-based role-playing game. Basically, I wanted something for a name that sounded like it came from another galaxy. Who wants to play with a boring name like Bob or Bill or Tom, y’know.
At the time, I was close with a Finnish girl and after seeing some of the language, I got the idea of seeing what an average saying would be when translated into Finnish. Loosely, according to some online translator (so I don’t vouch for the validity of these translations :P) - Omapainen Yksilo was one of the results when I put in ‘Maverick’.
The name stuck, although on more than one occasion have I being approached by people thinking I am Finnish. They get a bit of a shock when they find out I’m Irish. Omapainen quickly was shortened to Oma, which in turn started some ‘grandma’ jokes amongst those who speak Dutch. ;D

needed a name for a character and i was eating cheese on toast at the time. pretty boring tbh lol

Well, I used to go by the name Chestomagnetic (and many still know me as chesto), which came from someone at school. It’s a shortening of my last name, Chesterton, and I’ve got no idea where he pulled the magnetic from. Anyway, I needed a name one day for a forum and it popped into my head.
Later on, it became untenable for me to continue using that name, so I cast around for another.
I’d just started using Avenger as a shipname, and it seemed to fit, so I started using it.
Nothing too special about it, really.
