Sidequests: Are they actually possible
-
I mod for Morrowind mostly, but I want to get into Freelancer modding. Nuff said.
The question I want to know is: With all the modding techniques in Freelancer now, are sidequests actually possible?
I don’t mean the ones like in Crossfire and whatnot, which just involving following rumors and datadisks from wrecks.
I mean a sidequest where say, you talk to someone on a station, they tell you to go to maybe here or there, fetch an item, bring it back and talk to them, then get paid money or an item.
Is this possible at all? -
I think it is possible as a variant of missions on cargo delivery (drop pod) from destroyed npc:
You take mission, you fly to the set point, on certain distance from a point appears npc without engine, pilot (that did not turn, and that is terrible) and guns, you search for it, kill him, the necessary goods fall out of it, bring on baseP.S. Tried you DX8 Graphics Extender for Morrowind (MGE) for Freelancer? For its adjustment it is required Morrowind, and at me it is not present and it would be desirable to put not especially Is it same as ENBSeries or better?

Alright, thanks.
To Foxunit on the subject of MGE: I don’t really understand you that well mate, but I have used Morrowind Graphics Extender several times and I must say it is excellent, although you need a monster of a computer to make it run. It can be better than ENB series, because you can get graphical plugins to give it HDR, motion blur, etc. Though ENB gives several other options not found in MGE such as ambient occlusion.
I would actually recommend using both as well as getting the High-resolution textures by Darknut and Connary, if you’re looking for a good graphics upgrade. -
A Fellow Morrowinder… yay!!!..
Haven’t played for ages… you say there’s another GFX update… sweet… last time i played the MWE was
only just released… yeah… ages ago lol… been modding FL since then…Anyone finds any info pertaining to this topic… i’d be very interested myself… ;D
Chow. and Hia Trainwiz , welcome ;D

MP u say… oh wow… (goes hunting for his GOTY edition DVD with both exp…)
But on the first topic… been thinking about this a while now… closest thing ive found/seen is
using the dock restrict in hook to make a “key” & “lock” scenario… further thought on this
leads to way too many ideas… but you could set a “mission” of sorts via this function, and carefully placed
rumours at the “lock”… or clue… bah!!.. too early in morning 4 me atm… we had a plan over in XLR for this… but its been put on the shelf due to only me working on it…So in short… with carefull planning and the latest Hook’s … Its possible ;D ;D but only in MP

Someone else versed in Factions should be able to clarify whether this idea is plausible:
Depending on the limits of how many factions, and how cluttered it ends up…
At least part of this could be done through Rumors and Faction changes.
It would take up IDS nums pretty quickly I suppose, having numerous items only used during the quest:-
Some number of custom NPC’s with no other Rumor entries but for the quest (and hidden entirely until initiation)
-
Supporting new rumor entries
-
However many factions to cover each step of the quest
-
Custom missions eek
-
More one-use Pilot entries, plus perhaps unique pilot / ship names and titles
-
One-use loot sections
-
Hidden faction entries to keep down the clutter (think original Nomads)
Probably more in there I’m failing to recall, but that might accomplish a basic quest without digging into scripting.
One rumor leads to the location of a Storage Container (been a while since I looked around in that directory, sorry).
Player destroys container -> custom faction 1 raises -> next Rumor is unlocked at next NPC or same one -> next Container / unique NPC kill / etc drops the previously changed faction back to 0 & raises next, etc.
As the end payoff, a unique NPC kill on a custom, faction locked mission could drop whatever end item, and faction-lock the starting NPC so it would be non-repeatable.On mission pay; I don’t remember ever seeing any option but cash as the reward.
Anyhoo, just a thought. Either way, good luck
