[Freelancer Mod News]Jason's Freelancer Patch
-
@Motah
As soon as i logged out i realised this lol, and installed it to a dummy FL folder so i can see what’s there now
*** EDIT ***
In your freelancer.ini file you have this,
[;Display] <–-------------- semi colon inserted, don’t think you need that there
fullscreen = 1
size = 1024,768
color_bpp = 32
depth_bpp = 32 -
@M0tah: I already do handle the other cameras, but you must still load a game first before they take effect (their initialisation is done before the resolution is set, so the intro still gets the default 4:3).
@Bas: Well, being a patch, the intention is that everyone will have it. Both of these are already present in FL, it was only the key definitions that were missing.
@Gibbon: The commented Display header was part of the original, which I kept. I guess I could remove that section altogether, especially since I use the desktop resolution as default, to support widescreen.

@ adoxa
Here’s a question and i probably have it wrong, but in the dacom.ini there is this line in the Libraries section,
.\flmaterials.dll
I’m assuming this dll has something to do with the way the textures are displayed. The interesting thing is the dll in question isn’t called that in the EXE folder but
flmaterials.dll
So does the *.* actually mean anything? Just to try things out i changed that entry to refllect the actual dll name as listed in the EXE folder and so far have had no crashes and maybe it’s just me, but the effects look better, although it could just be my eyes lol.
Reason i ask this is it’s listed in your updated dacom.ini as it is in the original but removing those two characters does nothing apart from possibly making things look better, although as said i might be decieving myself
-
Thx Adoha, rolling - i was dreaming about it :))
-
@Gibbon: As OutCast says, *.* is just a reference to the current directory, so it has no real effect. Maybe it was a remnant from an alternative path. I shall remove it for the next version (along with the commented Display section in Freelancer.ini).
@Helloween: Hope you weren’t dreaming for long, the “Roll Baby Roll” mod had been around for ages…

@Bas: Well, being a patch, the intention is that everyone will have it. Both of these are already present in FL, it was only the key definitions that were missing.
Without any offense, I doubt that this will ever happen.
RP servers maybe won’t bother, but many PVP servers will be.
-
It is not. Because everyone who uses this patch has a very extreme advantage to those who don’t. That’s my point.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not totally against the new patch, but I am not sure about if this feature should remain in it.
Not to mention that some server admins, and if I am one I would do the same for sure, see it as a cheat and will bann players once they recognize them using the vertical strafe techniques. -
It is a HUGE difference, believe the dude who played over 4650h Freelancer (http://de.xfire.com/profile/basx/) online and spent the most time at PVP/Vanilla servers. When I am fighting against ppl with up-/down strafe I really FEEL the difference - I tested it out at HC, where it comes in the mod as an option…it is just SICK how you can beat people with this stuff, believe me…
(Again: I tested it out by myself)And again: You risk that some players get banned at some servers cause of this thingy.
-
Well it’s nothing new tbh, as mentioned already the roll baby roll mod has been out since the dawn of time. If you guys are only starting to worry about it now then not a lot i can say really.
I personally allow it because it has been available for so long, no way to prevent it, best option in my eyes at least is simply to include it so that way, everyone has the option to use it, but that’s just me.
-
Then the mod you mentioned is just quite unpopular, which would make a difference - I NEVER heard about it in my three years of FL online gaming.
-
Aha… another mod promising “roll”…
now my Question is this… and it comes from a good place (lol)
This has been activated in many mods (including my own) but i’ve
never cracked how to make it “useable” in flight…shure if i disable the mouse flight and manualy fly with the keys its all works. ( rolls nice ) but is this version the same dealy… or can i roll with the mouse flight active?..
And as far as flagging this as “old” or a cheat… cmon guys… he saw a hole… and coded a fix for it… I ask ye all this… Were is RbR? were are alot of “old” mods?.. If a new modder comes along and makes a mod based on what they don’t see available… then Great stuff!!..
Maybe calling it a patch is the problem here… as some will think its oki to "patch’ there version of FL… and take that online into another mod that dont have this activated… Well… that is cheating… and not a fault of the patch maker… but the player who knows (and has been told) better… those particular breed of pilots will find another way to cheat anyways… weather they use this or RbR or any other non vanila code to give em the “edge”…
Awesome try m8, Ignore the grumbles about cheating… I feel ye did well. if despicable pilots wanna use it to cheat… ye cant (& shouldnt) be blamed
-
The problem is that some players might use it who wouldn’t otherwise if it won’t have been released.
To clarify my statement, I wouldn’t care about it if it is a server mod or something like this….but as an opt. Mod (or patch), released for everyone out there, it is difinitivly. As I have said, players with vertical strafe have a HUGE (!!!) advantage about those who don’t.
-
here’s how i see it. Verti strafing has been around since the dawn of time, anyone with enough drive to get it working for them will do it. its not like he’s releasing some new thing that can be exploited, its there already, and i have to agree with Gibbon here. its already there, it was a hole in FL base code, and he fixed it. if you have a problem with it, make it a bannable offense on your server or something. dont harp on adoxa for trying to throw out an improvement
-
Erm… The point is exactly that by making vertical strafing a lot easier to use, more people will use it, which will create problems for balance and might cause people to get banned due to ignorance on either side.
I mean, I’m not necessarily against it, but I can see the problems it could cause. w0dk4 is also right that if you combine it with macros, you can get a serious balance problem. For mods that sometimes take months to balance, that’d be a HUGE issue.
