8-Way Strafe
-
@ viper… ye wont get a reaction m8… there’s no native support for FL in the joystick department
One way to do it… is to grab a proxy program that converts key commands to joystick commands… Ive only seen 1 so far… (saitek) but i’d bet there’s more for other joysticks
However… I’ve spend about 4-6 hours over the past few days playing with Adoxa’s .dll’s and what they bring to FL… and its a whole new way to fly!.. tricky, yes… & the “roll” has its negatives, it kills the generic bank settings when activated… no biggie and its a switch as well… so roll don’t have to be on and ye can fly normaly if wanted.
Strafe works well… feels wierd going on the 45deg then turning into a NPC for a death roll guns blazing… priceless
either way… its a whoot!!.. Joystick or no… I’ve happily integrated it permanently into my mod (this one and the jflp.dll)

Wasn’t there a joystick mod somewhere?
But still, mouse will work better in Freelancer. -
Don’t know what type you have M8. But, for example the Microsoft Sidewinder Joypad had software that let you map the buttons to key-presses and macros (a simple chain of key presses). Not had reason to buy another joypad for some time, however CH Products, Thrustmaster, Belkin, and Logitech all seem to follow the same theme with joysticks.
So all you need is understanding and using the software for you joypad and knowing what key to press in Freelancer to set up what you are attempting.

EDIT: Had word “Buy” where “But” was intended, please, waste no money on MS Sidewinder Joypads :roll:viper wrote:

Somewhere there was an emulator: joystick act as mouse…

@foxUnit01: Go right ahead.
@HunterKiller: What’s 12-way strafe? Up/down/left/right are strafe, forward/reverse are thrust, what’s left?
@viper: You’ll want Jason’s Freelancer Patch (aka JFLP; see critical downloads) or a mod that provides the options for the vertical strafe controls. Once you define keys for those, you can combine them with the horizontal keys to go diagonally. BTW, this particular version only works with the official patch, so you’ll want that, too.
With all the fuss that surrounded vertical strafing I wasn’t game to add it to JFLP, but perhaps I should?

Thanks Adoxa. Also, 88 Flak contains a source code folder for all the programs / hooks written for Flak (M0tah’s FLHook, M0tah’s client stuff like multi-intro etc., AI Companion Generator, etc.) Although this is not specifically written for Flak, would you like me to include the source for this in the source code folder (with proper credit of course)?
-
Yes, that would be nice. Speaking of multiple intros, I almost added it to JFLP, but the other options (in FL Hack) were too tightly integrated, so I let it be. BTW, FL Hack’s intros are a random cycle, which might give it the edge over MultiIntro.

Cool, thanks Adoxa. I added a short readme to the source zip which reads as follows:
Written by Jason Hood (Adoxa), 26 September, 2009.
Patch common.dll to allow pressing two keys to strafe diagonally.
This version only works with 1.1.Build (VC 6):
