Thinking about building an xp computer
-
There is no restriction on using any particular motherboard for any Operating System.
You need to know your cpu type and speed and find which motherboards support it, should be able to google the info on motherboards.
If your cpu is a 64-bit one then you will need XP-64.

yeah i preety know the basic i just build a pc but i tried to burn xp on it . would not take it maybe because bi had windows 7 on already i dont know. thats where i am going with this another 64 bit system so i can run a freelancer server off of the second pc. i already had window 7 64 bit using dual core chip but i upgraded to core 2 dual chip. but i am looking to get a xp machine also.

I d suppose, you only need to care,
if your motherboard will have driver support for the OS you select.Example:
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=acJsiQGEWJ7Fdp0m&templete=2
Select OS and check.
(Still running w2k and XP32. )

thats true also because my new mother board i have now the driver disk only supports windows vista so i had to go to the si i had to get the drivers from nvidia. i would problably go with intell and get a basic mother board one thats around $50.00 or a server mother board. i am not planning this till next year or so i will see about it. i was thinking of getting in touch with dell see if they have anything hanging around.

ok i found something that supports windows xp 64 bit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121381 its a intel mother board only $75.00
it can support 8 gigs of ram beautiful -
Something else:
Keep in mind, that an āoldā pcās power supply
might not have the xtra 4-pin ATX CPU power connector.
So possibly it might be better, to go for a barebone. -
no i am using the power supply i am using right now its a 450 watt power supply by bfg. believe me i learned all this in one day from my last build . last month my acer computer was shot the parts i am using are from that one. they are processer the dvd drive and a heat sink thats all i am using . i going to upgrade to a corsair power supply this spring i am putting it in the computer i built last month.

I wanna build a tesla coilā¦ but i cant find the parts for that eitherā¦ lolzā¦
Seriously thoughā¦ finding parts for a XP system these days is getting hardā¦ wish i lived in the USā¦ iād give u my old beast all she needs is a new HDā¦(everything else has been replaced with better techā¦ but iād rather spend the $$ on my āactualā PC) about the most reliable doorstop iāve ever owned.
Best of luck in your hunt my friend
