Eh, what do you guys think about a Jabber chat room?
Jabber/XAMPP is a free instant messenging protocoll. It is even linked to many E-Mail providers, so it is likely that most of you even have a Jabber account about which you just don’t know about.
Usually your Jabba account should be this way: My mail is [email protected], so seec1 is my user name and gmx.net my domain.
Even if you don’t have one you create one very simply. To make things better, you can even choose from many providers, so you don’t have to bother about AOL’s (ICQ) or Microsoft’s stupid EULAs and Private Policies which allows them to store all the data (incl. chat), files and might even trade it with other companies.
You need one jabba compatible client, such as Trillian or Pidgin, Gajim or Psi. Most of them should be also able to manage your other IM accounts, so why just don’t use on single application to manage all your contacts instead of one for every protocoll (Jabber, ICQ, MSN, Xfire…)T SP staff, is it OK if I create a T SP jabber chatroom?
<- Jabber name: [email protected] (Yes, that CCC that comes up to your mind as soon as your read this three letters)Griiiitz!

T SP staff, what do you say, YO!?
Vesko…first you are a linux user, then you know how to run it even at my system and now you are in for jabber as well - I just began to like you
-
Well, couldn’t find any information about it, eh.
But jabber is better than this prepority stuff
- IRC servers tend to show stupid login/welcome messages whcih you need to close with your IM
-
Bas u have the serv?
May you do irc and skype gateways? :))
-
Well I looked into Jabber, but when I download the client it doesn’t let me connect to anything but the jabber.com server
-
which client?
-
He_Eh.
Well, you can access Jabber through many clients, some of them are: Mirana, Trillian/Astra and Pidgin (formerly known as Gaim)
But afaik there are also some jabber-only clients out there.
For Pidgin there is an option int the account setting which you should tick on called “Create account at server” (or similar to this). But you might aslo got a jabber account by your email provider back when you registered your e-mail…
