/v/lancer strikes again?

I don’t want to sound like a troll, but I’m not sure it’s even possible to copyright a model made for a game. Since it is Microsoft’s game, and you are not Microsoft, you have no legal right to modify the game to begin with. Anyone who makes models for freelancer, then distributes them to the community via mods, and then complains when other modders use them in their own mods is a bit hypocritical. You can’t put something up for free on the internet and complain when people use it. You can’t steal anything that is free.

The moment you create a model, you have a copyright on that model, no matter what it will be used for.
Of course non-profit uses of copyrighted models are hard to go after in a legal way.The bottom line is that there is a gentleman’s agreement between modders to never use work of other fellow modders without asking and crediting them.
If somebody does so, you lose all respect in the scene, as has happened to Pastaspace, which is why we will not allow advertisement for his mod on this website. -
, which is why we will not allow advertisement for his mod on this website.
my mod
only put together by me
imagined and designed as a collective effort by /v/ -
I also find it funny how everything here is always belonging to one person and one person alone. I’ve never seen that in any other modding community.
Says something about the modders in the FL Community.

Looks we still have people put his hand to a wrong place LOL.
WODKA! WODKA! WE NEED A ENCRYPTION MODULE! MUHAHAHAHAHA (EVIL ECHO)

First, I suggest you look up the term Fair Use, and pull your head out of your ass.
Second of all, your statement has no legal backing whatsoever. Not to mention that there is no such thing as a “Gentlemen’s Agreement” That is just blatantly the most retarded thing I have ever heard. I for one, am glad we can’t advertise /v/lancer on this site, because everyone here is babbies. Real men don’t whine about ONNOEHEUSEDMYMODELTOMAKEAGAMEFUNFOREVERYONE. They sit the #$%% down and have fun with bros. This is why /v/lancer will forever be funner then SWWT and PURPLE. It’s made by bros, for bros.

So what I’m hearing is that you guys seem to have some sort of unwarranted sense of self-importance and that nobody can use resources that you put up on the internet for free if you don’t approve of it first? And that when someone uses said resources that are again free and have no type of security whatsoever, you pitch a fit rather than realize that it doesn’t hurt you at all if they want to use it and that sharing is a good thing? I’m just making sure I understand this correctly, because I’ve seen no other modding community react that way. Everywhere else I’ve been it’s “Oh, you used it without asking? Whatever, just give me credit for it, and have fun.” Also, on occasion a “don’t charge money for it” as well. But never anything like the level of entitlement I’ve seen here.

Implying we can’t just de-encrypt stuff
Or rather
Implying we aren’t almost entirely done with the mod and actually need to steel anything else.

…
…
…
…
…
But… you… started this thr-You know what no.
Not worth it, too easy. -
I feel lucky because my mod project is slowly and not release yet.
Implying we want to steal anything off of you.
Except maybe infocards…
-
And… yeah I’m not even going to pretend I understood that

We do not have legal rights only to sell complete modified game.
Open is not Free.
Creative Commons is especialy for freeloaders.
“all-in-one” mod does not provide interest for players.
After the week of playing mods of this type are going to “0” at the server list. -

Implying mods of any other type actually survive
Implying a bunch of active players didn’t decide to make this mod because every other mod was awful -

A thousand times this. Again, I’d like to repeat that the sense of entitlement and unwarranted self-importance here is astounding. Is there a legitimate reason why you’re acting like that kid in kindergarten who flipped a #$%% when he was forced to share? Because so far I haven’t heard one. From the start it’s been “DURR HE STOLED TINGS HE NOT 'LOWED TO LETS HURF AND DURF ABOUT IT DEY CANT COME HERE NO MORES” rather than, again, the way it is in EVERY OTHER MODDING COMMUNITY, which is “Oh, you’re gonna edit my mod? Alright, man, that’s cool, just make sure you credit my name in there. So long as others enjoy it that’s good enough for me.”

waves hand
hey, modeler here.
Just my two bits. When I make something, I usually have a purpose for it. Now first, I consider 3d modeling an art form, so do a lot of other people, including the US Gov’t.
So, when someone makes any model, at least for a US citizen and any country aligned with the US copyright law, that model is immediately covered by copyright law, no matter what the intention of use is for. Unless, of course, it was made before 1989… then it has to carry a copyright symbol.
ANYWAYS.
What I’m making clear here, is that a 3d Model is covered in both US and International Copyright law. Whether or not someone wants to spend the money to pursue you for Infringement is up to them. I guess in the end it’s totally up to you if you want to risk a lawsuit or not.
Also, dont give me any #$%% about /v/. I’m a #$%% /b/tard, been one since 1975. Deal with it.
