FLSpew (FLSpit) ERROR: Location 2543441030 is invalid
-
So, I had a ctd (crash-to-desktop) in my new System.
I thought I eliminated them by making the jump holes either actually fit their destination counterparts, or leading them to themselves. This sure did raise the overal stability of the System, but nonetheless I just had a ctd
FLScan came up with nothing.
FLSpew/FLSpit reports a buch of warning and errors, most of them the usual ones I learned to ignore.
Hereās a simplified version of the FLSpit report (the simplification being that the missing mp3 codec occurs a helluva lot more - but only on this laptop, and without any observable consequences, and I donāt think it actually causes problems, besides of the FLSpew.txt file getting large). The possible culprit imho is the line I made bold and yellow:
[18-11-2010 20:58:44]
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
WARNING:General:set_gamma_function() called outside of create_buffers/destroy_buffers
WARNING: get_base(Intro20_Base) failed.
WARNING: Failed to get start location
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR: Location 2543441030 is invalid
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
ERROR:General: StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
[Missing MP3 codec error repeated ad nauseam - but like I said, I donāt think itās actually a problem]The rotten thing is: the CRCTool does not recognize ā2543441030ā, so how can I get to know what ālocation 2543441030ā refers to??
And/or, what does a āERROR: Location such-and-such is invalidā signify anyway? Could it be a cause for a ctd?
If not, then what else could it be?
Iām not trying to get you guys to do my dirty work, but it would be cool if you could give me some feedback on this
Thanks for your time!

I might have found something thatās embarrasingly simple
If it fixed my ctd and/or the Spew error, Iāll report it. And otherwise Iāll be whining some more :pint:
-
The crash did not occur, at least not in the relatively short time I flew around the base (which previously caused the crashed I referred to) but the dreaded line ERROR: Location 2543441030 is invalid is still in Spewā¦
Anyway, the fix I did was correcting a ādock withā in an auxillary dock* line that referred to a wrong base. That seems to be the cause of the crashes - but unfortunately not of the reported error.
*(what I call auxillary docks, is the usage of STATION archetypes with both parent = and dock_with lines. This makes the archetypes untargetable for the player, like a SATELLITE archetype, but the NPCs still use it to dock. Iāve developped this habit because I like adding stuff to bases to make 'em bigger and more unique.)

Then if it is still not recognised it means that somewhere you mis-typed one of the nicknames.
For example: you have a base called Newfoundland and somewhere you called it Newfounland

Unless you are using an external program such as CDLIte, you will not have a crash log. It was lost when it crashed (as in not saved). That log is from the previous time you successfully closed down the game.
BTW, that invalid location error will pop up when you enter a system with a bad dock, jumpgate or jumphole destination location. Unless you use one of those you wonāt crash (jumps will turn into never ending jumps).
BTW, FLEC checks for bad nicknames, FLScan doesnāt.

check the base roomsBefore I went to bed, I realized I had made a shipdealer in the mBase entries, but there was no ship dealerās room in the base. So, at least there is a reference to a non-existing room. Good point!

Thanks! I did indeed make a database. So, itās worthwhile going thru all the nicknames again (I already did, but your feedback urges me to do it once more - and better.

Good to know.

Can you point me to a working download url?I found a thread plus a download link here but the link is dead

Dr. Alzheimer Stole My Brain!
First, I found Solurusā site, went to the registration proces only to find my email address was I already in use. I tried to login, and discovered I already registered.
I couldnāt find FLEC at the site (@ Solurus: why isnāt it in your tools folder?) so I looked in my own messy archive to find I already had downloaded it. In 2008, apparently.
Anyway, I have 1.007 and I read there are newer versions. So maybe a download url would still be nice.

FLEC 1.007 finds a lot of minor errors, which is quite cool.
I use a lot of comment lines, and at one point I erroneously used a : instead of a ; Because I copied-and-pasted a lot, this error got spread widely. I donāt think it rendered a crash, but itās sure cool to have it fixed.
Also, FLEC finds several errors that are in the unmodded game files, like e.g. missing nicknames for blue_lens_glow
There are a bunch (quite a bunch actually) reported errors of missing .cmp and .3db files for things I didnāt do anything with, so I assume these arenāt serious, or maybe even false positives.
A word of critic towards FLEC is that it reports all of my custom IDS as empty and Ć³ut of boundā while they arenāt. Maybe their reference number is higher than FLECās limit?
The overall experience is: great tool!! Iāve corrected a few dozen small errors!

At the top of the page is a button called āFilesā, there you will find the download section.
Version 1.007 is quite old, click the link below for 1.012
http://digitalbrilliance.com/Downloader/index.php?action=downloads&id=1
As far as the DLL part, it reads it from āfreelancer.iniā so it shouldnāt miss any DLLs you have properly set up. If you didnāt assign it there then it will show up āout of rangeā.
For the vanilla stuff, those errors show up if older SDK versions were used to build a mod, QuickFix 1.5 has them all fixed.

Is it easy to use?

Yes, because it stores the info as it is logged to a file on your HD. Pretty useful program for server-ops as well.

Btw the readme says itās for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. Does NT include Vista?
