Have Factions scan for Mandatory Cargo - Possible?
-
So, we can have Factions scanning for certain contrabande cargo: they will ask you to drop it, and attack if you do not comply.
But is it somehow possible to have them scan for something the player should be carrying, and have them attack when he’s not?
Imho this would enhance the game: we could create something like an ID the player should be carrying in certain areas, or force him to invest in a certain trade item, or a certain piece of equipment.

You can set the ai to scan for anything, cargo, equipment, whatever and they will look for it. Just need to define itI know. What I’m asking for does not apply to what Factions can scan for, but to how they should react to scans.
As the game is now, Factions can only react by demanding you to drop stuff (lawful factions will demand you to drop the stuff they regard ‘illegal’ while criminal will want your ‘loot’), and attack you if you don’t. My question is: can we have them react the opposite, meaning attack you if you’re not carrying such-and-such cargo.

The only objective for this is for ID’s (according to you).
This is exactly what faction reputation does in a more gradual manner…
The ID’s would be cast iron legitimacy (you either are, or are not) whereas reputation is more a degree of legitimacy…
What would it really add?

I think I see where he’s going with this idea. Say Bretoinia controls system X and has it as restricted space. In order to be allowed to travel there you need a special permit, no matter how good your rep is with them, it’s still restricted space. Right? What Chips wants is for the Bretonian NPC’s to scan for this permit when your in this system and attack if you don’t have it. I think this is atleast similar to his intention. Or I could be way out in left field.

Indeed restricted areas is what I’m thinking off. IRL I have no quarrels with the army, but if I sneak into an army base, I’d be in trouble if I’d run into a patrol.

See above. The IDs could be made contraband outside of their corresponding restricted areas to prevent people collecting them, if that would be regarded a problem.
Apart from IDs, such a feature could also allow for hostages: e.g. the Corsairs won’t attack you if you carry a POW Corsair leader. I think people will come up with all sorts of interpretations of how this feature could be used.
A related, but different idea would be to have dockable obects consider rep level to allow you to dock. So, a Jump Gate will only allow you to dock if your rep with the owning Faction is more than 0.6 and says “dock denied” to people with lower rep. Same for bases. In fact it’s weird it doesn’t work this way already.

sorry I wrote that about 4am lol
Upon further reflection on your concept the closest thing I can think of is a plugin Adoxa came up with that let’s you require a key to access certain places. So here’s what you could do (it’s a little complicated but would have a nice effect).
For restricted systems:
1. Use the key plugin to restrict access to the system in the first place
2. Make the key contraband by the controlling house of the system so all the way to the gate they’re attacked for possessing the key
3. Create a duplicate of the faction and change it so that they will be hostile to all players operating in the system. (do this because if I’m not mistaken the key is removed from your char when you go through the locked gate).
You can get the plugin here
Now that you mention it it is kind of weird that you can dock with a hostile gate or a lane for that matter. You’d think they’d have a way to prevent that in such a technologically advance universe. I do know that planets/stations deny docking to “hostile” players and I’ve heard mention of workarounds that involve swapping gate and dock coding, I don’t remember specifics or where I read it right now but maybe someone with more intimate knowledge of this site or fl code could shed some light there, on whether it will help you.

Man - Thanks!! This seems to be exactly what I want - and it’s already available thru an Adoxa hack  I thought I already completely combed thru his site.
I even almost missed this post! Probably because it was already out of the “latest post” list.

You get shot at, but you can dock nonetheless. here should have been a line to a dockable object that sets the minimum required rep, just as with stuff yo can buy.
Nice hack for a hack maybe?

Thanks again for bringing the Key plugin to my attention!
