FL survive

When will everyone be tired of it?
Elite still has a few players.

why don’t we live as long and look what FL is until then. probably the day ipv4 is being shut down we have managed already to run FL with ipv6, who knows.Use the VPN network to simulate IPv4 environment is the good way. And anyone know way FL not support IPv6?

IPv4 is to run out within the next three months to three years, depending on who you ask and when…
HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean all IPv4 addresses will suddenly vanish to be replaced by IPv6 addresses overnight. We have nothing to worry about.

if we want to keep freelancer alive not within the coming five years only but lets say another seven years or another dozen, we should one day start investigating how to make it run with IPv6. many players who didn’t know FL love starting playing it as i experienced on “recruiting” new FLers - still a problem is that many people who play games (and i really mean they do play games, many games, much time) have only a little idea of computers. the game has potential to catch new players as long as we can make their way easy.

That’s normal and there’s nothing you can do about it. In 2004 the game had been released for barely a year; it was in its peak. It’s absolutely normal.

XP it is for me as well. I have also noticed when going to my bank here, they are still using XP for all their equipment so, if they’re still happy with it, so am I. I have a system with W7 on it and it was a pain in the arse. I was using it when mine other one got hit during a bad storm last Summer. It wasn’t easy to get Freelancer to run on it and all the extra programs but, I finally did and rest assured, once my system was fixed, back to XP I went and will be until it just stops working.

Guys, is we talking which OS is sucker?
Of course not, we talking about how to make FL running as long as… our patience go end right?
So the problem about DirectPlay8, it’s not support IPv6?
I’m a programming newbie here, but i just want to whimsically ask is there possible to change the way of Freelancer’s Dx function calling to make Freelancer call DirectPlay9 without to get the source code…?
If that’s impossible…anyone seen this PPT? http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/2/3/a237e21f-c397-44cf-89f1-096495af2a36/DirectPlay.ppt
I don’t know where is the place that PPT use for, but see in page 10. -
The problem with IPv6 is that not all machines in the network are using it.
Once all machines are running IPv6 then all may well be OK.
But in any case, no game will last forever, so why are we worried when FL runs today?
Just buy more parts for your desktop or laptop so you can keep it running as long as you want.
There are people out there who still have working Ataris, BBC Micros, Commodore Pets and 64s.
