A general apology for everyone here at TSP
-
Well, many will probably not know me, so before we go down on the subject, I think that telling you who I am is in order.
My name is Claudio (Folgore_RM here, and at TLR.org), and I’ve been leading the project commonly known as Continuum in these four months, we’ve done a lot of progress 3D-wise, but we’ve had several issues aswell, like the vertex issue on models created with SketchUp (avoid it like death itself). I cleaned them with Blender, by decimating the model, same with the mesh optimizer from 3DS Max 9, but anyway, the thing is the same, we’re lacking texturers, and progress halted near a 5%.
I’m currently re-making the systems, since by enlarging planets, it’s easy to have them clipping into nearby stations, or asteroid fiels. Progress once again is slow, since I’m serving within the Guardia di Finanza, and it usually steals from me more than nine hours per day. And with the new government of Mario Monti in act, and with new directives, it steals me an additional of one hour per day. Progress is slow, I know, but I’m sick of getting blamed for this, especially from someone’s behalf. There’s a saying here in Italy that I want to share it with you:
You’re having ham on your eyes.
This project started as an hobby, after that me and other players, from various other communities, like Discovery, NSU and Crossfire decided to try to make something that was near to what we wanted truly from a Freelancer mod, this is how Continuum was born.
Continuum is the re-interpretation of Freelancer from a different point of view. So, just to make an example, what if Samura lost their seat in Kusari? What if the Dragons (Blood Dragons) outlawed Samura? This is just an example of what we are doing, many infocards were added, many were modified, many other are set to be modified.
Then again, what if the consequences of an experiment that was done five hundred years ago could have major consequences later? An example is what happened in Texas, in 501 A.S. The Dallas Research Station got sucked by a singularity that they generated. Said singularity evaporated within minutes, leaving behind two enourmous antimatter clouds, the Negras.
_814 A.S, in the nearby system of Georgia, antimatter storms are becoming more and more frequent, they are generating everytime from the same point.
815 A.S, the system of Georgia is now connected with the system of Texas by two unstable jumpholes, that are supposed to decay in the next century.
816 A.S (current date), a singularity erupts in the system of Georgia, the nearby system of Texas is evacuated as the Negras start to increase in size, merging together and forming the ‘La Grande Negra’, which eventually covered Texas’ main star, and lowering the temperature on Planet Houston to -27°C.
_The system is evacuated. The inmates on Prison Station Sugarland are left to their own fate, as their guardians leave with the last shuttle available. The LNS Mississippi is lost after that they got their navigation systems fried by the massive amounts of radiation, and lost main life support systems. Ironically, the LPI officers from LPI Sugarland were onboard the Mississippi, they shared the same fate of those who they left behind.__
This is probably one of the main concepts of Continuum, a ravaged environment, defined by the words: destruction and death.
Players will have a lot of roleplay to do, to understand how the ‘Dallas Black Hole’, named after the famous Dallas Research Station, formed. The DSRS Nathaniel Bowditch is (will) be located in Texas, and it’ll serve as the main base of operations for the scientists studying on what happened in Texas.
Roleplay in our mod is something that we care the most, we were influenced from Discovery, from Shattered Worlds, from Crossfire and from Nightstalker’s Universe. Player versus player combat is not a satisfaction anymore for me, roleplaying someone, or something, is something that I like the most.
This is what Continuum is.
On the other side, I want to apologize from what I said four or five months ago, saying that TSP holds TLR.com with wrongful goals, compared to OP’s TLR.org. I don’t know what I had in my head, since I didn’t even thought twice before posting.
Consider this a general apology from my behalf, and from the whole Continuum Development Team. We hope that we can cooperate with The Starport, as we cooperate with The Lancers Reactor (.org). We are not making ‘an official’ mod for Lancers Reactor, we’re just making another mod that would keep, with hope, the Freelancer community alive.
Being in contact with SWAT-OP-R8R, I talked with him and we’ve discussed about the ban on the word ‘TSP’ over at TLR.org, and we agreed that he should lift said ban. You can now find that the word TSP or Starport can be written without any warnings from the forum platform. There’s no need for hate in a community like Freelancer, a community that dies with each years. Hating eachother will just help this situation, and in the next decade, sites like TSP and TLR will be long forgotten.
I excuse myself for the wall of text, and for eventual errors in my spelling, but I hope that the message that I tried to deliver was received.
Thank you for reading, and sorry for the disturbance in the force.

Dunno, but doesnt the matter and the anti-matter annihilates when they touch eachother releasing an incredible ammount of energy?
Wouldn’t there be a big “boom” if it touched the star? “Hypernova”?
Glad to see this still being developed.

What is the vertex issue? Am I ok if I model in Maya?Digital Anvil originally created the models for Freelancer using Maya (afaik) unfortunately we dont have any of their tools or exporters which they used.

I would be glad to have you in our team. If you know to texture, it’s even better. We’re welcoming everyone in our team who has a desire to make something special from Freelancer once again.

hey pisan how you doing . visted Agrigento i forget when i was in the valley of the temples alot of culture there beautiful country. dont know why my ancesters left? i guess for a better life lol.Agrigento is something that I like a lot. The people there are very nice towards tourists and fair. Unfortunately, most people who know the word ‘Sicily’ will glue it onto the word ‘Mafia’.
Nevertheless, Sicily is one of the places that I like most in our country. This coming from someone who lives in the center of Italy, which lacks that typical national xenophobia present in the North, against the South, because of stupid people like Bossi and his ignorant son.

Sketch up? new one to me, although used blender previously I hadn’t heard anyone modelling with it - but awesome stuff
Good luck with the project though - sounds interesting. As for development and time issues for development - the bane of modding Everything takes a lot longer, and there’s never enough damned time … and to top it off, people keep asking if it’s done yet
but all the best
