Hi, and
I’d ask whether you have a preference for SP or MP.
I would ask if you are a role play fan - as some of the servers have very strict (and lengthy…oh my!) rules for role play and you must be in character…which always gets on my nerves as I like to play games - not play to be someone
It would be useful if there was a list of mods, categorised, with links to their downloads etc - so people could find all this info
A very useful resource that’d be
But I can’t advise better than ^^ him, so unless you wish to narrow your type of gameplay, I’d say work with what he said and see how it goes

… Chips, I and w0d have too much work to do, stop that

Are you kidding?

The pages are rather outdated and miss quite a few mods/servers though, which is a shame.

Nope, I obviously didn’t emphasise the part about role play enough…
I guess I’m also thinking more TLR.com way - there are omissions from that list as it is currently (including Gibbons recommendations) - but wiki I guess means they should add themselvesNice addition to DL db with categories - now rather than having to ask for names, they can find for many mods - once categorised

Thanks for the advice peeps. I’ll start trying to get my freelancer all up and running with all this mod stuff. I am looking for some good MP, however roleplaying is really not my thing. Not when it comes to having to play in character and follow 15 pages of rules and having to only use certain weapons from certain factions so on and so forth. I cam do some RP, but some of the mods I was looking at just get stupid crazy with the rules.
-
Another factor to consider is how heavily modded the servers are. Some servers are total conversions such as Freeworlds, others are so heavily modded they require an additional mod in order to even log in.
The other option would be a vanilla or vanilla-compatible server. These require either no mod to log in, or offer an optional mod in order to experience enhanced game experience.

What is?

For MP play it may be worthwhile visiting the server list, seeing what mods have reasonably active servers, and then try reading up on the mods for those servers. That way you can find a good mod (played by many) which is active (unlikely to get as bored) but appeals (as you find a suitable mod).

I guess what I am looking for in multilayer is more of a “co-op” feel. Something that I can find in most MMO’s or larger games. If I choose to go off on my own I can, or if I need to, play with a few other players to take on a harder mission or objective together. I would also like to be able (not sure how it works yet) to do my own thing some place, but still chat (In game chat) with other players that are around / online.
I would not mind playing the original unmodded online if there where any servers running that.

Just in the interest of blatant self-promotion…, the 24/7 FREELANCER UNIVERSE server sounds just like what you’re looking for. It’s a vanilla server primarily focused on pvp. Few rules, do what you want.
Our principle rules consist of No Modding (server mod excepted of course), No Cheating, No Swearing.
Those are the only rules we really enforce. There are some community accepted standards of course, but we try not to get involved in enforcing those unless they become a big problem.
Helpful community, mix of interests, mod is optional, etc.
At the very least it can serve as a starting point and you can move outward from there.Give it a shot.

I found a place (on this site i think) the other day that had a walk through on setting everything up, from what updates I needed, to installing and using the mod manager. Now for the life of me I can’t find it. Does anyone know what I am talking about?
I have downloaded all of the critical updates in the download section, but am wary of what order I should install them in. I guess ill just hope for the best

Possibly that.
Welcome, and NOD are so much cooler.

I am pretty much set up ( I think) However, I have run into a crazy weird problem. Not sure if it is Freelancer related or not. My internet has been acting funny the last few weeks, I am now using a old router I had laying around and everything is all better. My computer works great, internet is fast, and I can play other games online. However, every time I try to find servers or even play Freelancer online in one of the servers, my computer disconnects from the WiFi. Is this a known Freelancer issue with a work around or some other kind of problem on my end that is unrelated to all this?
p.s.
gdi ftw -
uninstall ipv6 if you have it running.
Also, if you’re running Windows 7, try running everything as administrator.
