Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome folks it is much appreciated.
I know that pvp is an unavoidable part of the game and thatās fine, I donāt have any problem with that. Only when Iām getting attacked 95% of my game time I tend to get a little bit testy, to the point where I left my last server because of it. Others where getting their jollies at my expense.
I will give 88 Flack a look. thanks for the heads up Sizer.
thanks again everyone

Bit late, but welcome to the Starport m8.
As for servers, tough one I think. There are only a few servers where real RP is played - most servers are something in between (basic) RP and PvP nowadays. Truth is that playing RP takes effort and most people prefer to pick a role that guarantees action without too much fuzz; they become pirates or another kind of criminal.Reading your preferences, I would look for a server where there is a balance between the two. Where players donāt just chase other players around the mod all the time, but actually put some effort into RP interaction. For me personally, this has proven to be the most fun. Have a look at several servers, and allow yourself some time to get to know the atmosphere and the way players play the game there. Although asking for advise is always helpful, in the end itās always best to form your own opinion about it.
Good luck m8.

Not sure if I understand what you mean there. If you think that the two cannot be combined - then I beg to differ. Actually, PvP is a quite common result of RP. Letās take a simple example: A pirate demands a trader vessel to pay him taxes in return for his save travel through pirate dominated space. This is RP. The trader refuses, and because his freighter is quite decently equipped, he takes his chances and engages in battle with the pirate - PvP.
Apart from the more immersive RP, the difference between PvP and basic RP as described above is (as far as I have seen) most of the times just a simple piece of RP chatter between the two parties. And this is left out most of the times, because there is no action in chatter and most players just prefer to have action. They skip the RP part and go straight for the PvP.

The sarcasm was rather apparent in Alexās reply, Maverick
Itās just that a lot of players seem to think everyone can (and therefore must) either be slotted in the āPvP jockeyā category or the āpacifist RPāerā one. Thatās just a false dichotomy.

No, thatās not what I think. Also, you missed a part about PvP being in role play a lot of the time on RP servers. In that situation youāre not immediately out of role play as soon as you start shooting each other.

Protip: When playing on RP server, assume everyone you meet is Roleplaying.
Youād be surprised sometimes how fitting these āPvP jockeysā can be in the role of a pirate.
And FF, though I agree itās bad to slot everyone into those groups, itās certainly not wrong that a lot of people can be.
I would probably be classed as the latter, simply because I generally attempt to find a peaceful resolution (of course dependent on my characterā¦ Which are usually traders, so ) and only engage in battle if necessary. Not only does it mesh with the RP of the character(s), itās also a bit of help on them metagame given I suck at combat.

Itās certainly a hot topic in regards to Freelancer.
And I think I forgot to say hi in my last post, so welcome to the 'port!
