Freelancer crashes during start / movies

Wanted to post this since I didn’t see it anywhere. Installed Freelancer and it just kept crashing during the first few seconds of the opening movie splash (the MGS one.) Tried installing latest patch, tried updating video card definitions, no effect.

So what I did was to simply rename the video files (in FREELANCER/DATA/MOVIES) so that they wouldn’t be recognized. Now I can finally play the game without problems (so far at least.) Another way would probably have been to just delete the movies, or edit the ini file to change the filenames in there.

Anyway, maybe not new info but it wasn’t in your FAQ so I wanted to post it. Maybe you should add this problem and solutions (crude as they may seem) to the FAQ. I saw at least one other person having the same crash and dealing with it in the same way.

For the record I am on Windows XP Pro 32 bit, Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo, Athlon 64 dual-core, 2G RAM and Radeon HD6670 video.
