Ubisoft?

Apparently, Ubisoft don’t take game suggestions because they’d have every 12 year old telling them how awesome another shitty FPS would be.Furthermore, they apparently don’t even open game suggestions so as not to get into sticky situations with IP and the like.
Well that just sucks but I think big game companies are alot like any other big company, using advertising to cajol the masses into thinking whatever garbage they make is cool (usually some fps explosion extraveganza). Perhaps a better tactic would be to try getting a smaller developer to try for the rights to FL. I can see alot of positives to it over a bigger outfit not the least of which they would be more likely to pay more attention to what the freelancer community would like to see in it.

Ubisoft was contacted because they at one point sold copies of Freelancer as a deal with Microsoft (current deals include XPLOSIV and Valusoft, for instance).

I wonder if ms will eventually start making hd versions of older games like this, seems to be a bit of a trend now. Exactly the same game but up to date graphics. The story aint broke, it’s cheap to do, and they bring it to a new generation.

Hell I’m testing graphics updates on a 55inch hdtv cause I want them that damn rich lol. It would be loads better if they either gave up the source code to the pros around here I mean look at what they’ve done without it.

A remake would be great actually because it can do something none of us can: generate a lot of press.
However, I doubt it’ll happen, looking at how many much more renown games could do with one and have yet to.

Fair enough FF but I look around and see what’s been done with this game by a bunch of people with some free time and determination and wonder if MS could really do a better job remaking it?
I mean really what we’re discussing here is duplicating what they did with Halo CE last year and this community has already done that six ways from Sunday. Take anything you want from more modern games, eg. autoupdaters, dynamic economies, wingmen all of them, someone said “I wish we could find a way to….” and someone here said “Hey I can make it do that”.
Frankly what worries me more than anything is MS actually trying to remake or update this game and screwing it up lol.

The only thing we can really do is “upgrade” FL (similar to the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project). There is no way we can make a true sequel because we simply lack talent and time.
Once Freeworlds is released, I’d like to tackle this as a community effort, to create a big community patch where we put in graphical stuff as well as selected gameplay enhancing stuff (i.e. adoxa hacks, new character selection, true dynamic economy, etc…) most people can agree on.

I disagree on one point there w0dk4, we definitely have the talent. Although I’m sure if some backer was to approach the best here and say here’s x number of dollars and a game engine and said make FL2 they would find the time.
Modding Freeworlds would be an excellent idea, guess I should look at it lol

I’m sorry but no we don’t. We don’t have the scriptwriters, voice actors, coders, designers, graphic artists, modellers, etc. required to make a sequel or a large project. At best we can do mods, but every project that doesn’t mod FL and tries to strike out on its own has failed miserably thus far.
EDIT: I do agree with w0d however. Some sort of Freelancer HD mod would be a great thing to do.

It’s selfish I know, but all I’ve ever really hoped for is a vanilla graphics upgrade of epic proportions. Shattered worlds are most of the way there, but it’s heavily modded away from vanilla in other areas too which I don’t really enjoy that much. God that mod is gorgeous aesthetically though considering it’s not using your dx9 wizardry.
If they would ever bless us with those building blocks and then you guys went to work with your magic wand it would make for a pretty special upgrade to vanilla.
I guess nobody is ever gonna be able to do anything with the characters themselves as such, so the games always going to be held back from that perspective, but other than in the big picture of storyline it’s no big deal.
I think it might just be one of those things that never gets achieved though as mods work on their mods naturally.
