[Star Citizen News]Chris Roberts announces Announcement Date for new game!

Wait, what? They have been retarded enough to block certain IP areas totally out of their game, meaning from all servers? Like a bauss.
Tards.
-
I think they might just not have had the budget to upgrade the hardware.
Running an MMO is rather expensive.
-
Totally and utterly STOKED!!!
That is all…

I know right?
I doubt Roberts watches the forums much though. They’ve already been in development for a bit and must have a pretty good idea of what they want to do. What we and the WC people disagree on are fairly fundamental points which are likely to be already set in stone.
I’m waiting on the official reveal before deciding whether I want to get involved or not.

I you guys want a game that more resembles Freelancer you gotta be more vocal. The “wing-nuts” are a very vocal group and upon inspection of the forums… it shows.http://robertsspaceindustries.com/forums/topic/will-this-be-a-freelancer-2/

Based on the interviews that he gave shortly before this came up, it would sound like he wants to do a more Wing Commander style game. If that’s true then it will have more in common with Freespace than it would Freelancer.
However all the news bits and universe building stuff don’t really sound like a mission-based game. They sound like something you would see or care about in a game with a more open world.
I don’t know. Like I said before the game could be anything at this point. Hell, I’m not even convinced there is a game yet. Primarily because I have no idea where the funding for this is coming from or going to be coming from. For all I know this is just Roberts testing the waters to see how much interest there might be in a potential space sim.

It’s two years down the road whatever it is, so can’t say i much care. Whatever is said there right now is worthless, gaming is mobile, cross platform, mmo and free to play from now on, joysticks can go to hell and the desktop pc is near it’s end as we know it. Intel and microsoft are as good as saying that.

Minus 9 more days until the big reveal, people!!!
Here’s what I really wish he did:
Freelancer 2 with a new engine. I don’t mind if it plays in a new system instead of Sirius, but it would be freaking awesome if it played 10-300 years after Freelancer.
Now, one last thing to make the game they develop epic win: Make the engine modding-friendly. Oh, the possibilities. They would never have to develop another Freelancer if people could easily create their own systems. The modding community here has already done miracles and created incredible tools.

First of all, this project should mean profit, and game market was always a niche market. That’s the problem. So there arent any options to choose.
Creating a large scale MMO game like EvE cant be done in two years as stated and it wont have great success to sustain it’s future development as well as high risks during dev cycle. The best popularity will have a free, space MMO platform with mod abilities, which is an impossible scenario due to no profits at all.
Another option is to make small scale multiplayer space sim like current FL, some sort of remake. This should be a AAA class game to have at least positive public reaction which means long dev time or even collapse of the project due to low popularity of space sim genre Also Im not sure this is gonna be an epic event for kids which can lead to lower profits as space sim != FPS shooter.
Finally making a single player game, well maybe it will be a good option too but the game will fall into oblivion after some time.
In any way, what is gonna be this Chris’s title, this will be a risky try.

Oh look:
Seem like the publisher problem has already been solved. Phew.

I worry about this:
“Rather, the financing for the project has been arranged privately”it is what? an indie project? hehe
